Saturday Offroad Pics

thanks for a great weekend in achill

thanks daithi dakar gal bbi aidan wizard hope you all liked the off road tracks of achill and all made it home save hope to see yous soon the killers:has any one got pic of riche falling into the river and jk bining him self kilian gs1200:

Ohh, you wise old sage Fanum - I've got a life, a very good one I think and it suits me fine

If you're referring to the Airhead G/S I had.......I used it for what it was intended & built for - going offroad and having a laugh on

I sold it because I had little time to use it with family committments and it was a helluva lot of money to tie up for a bike that was so specialist and that only got used for a few GS weekends and a bit of greenlaning each year. I could of bought a couple of KTMs for the price of that bike :D .

Now Wreford's having fun on it - good on him:thumb2

With the Adv, it gets used lots - just come back from a 2000 mile week in the Alps, thanks:augie

Just can't see the point in spending £10-12k on a new (predominantly road) bike and subjecting it to tracks where a pukka enduro bike would be more suitable...........but each to their own:rolleyes:

Steady trails on a Oilhead GS.........fine

Irish Offroad Pics posted were great BTW:thumb2

it,s called (the balls) some people have em some have,nt every one seen what was ahead of them not one chose to turn back, there was actualy
people there with no balls who had em , very proud to be part of such a ballsy lot and hope i have bigger balls next year:aidan

Would this be the one you're looking for Speedo?
I thought it was too cruel.......:augie

richy-river.jpg

I should point out that the Aidan mentioned in this thread is not me, offroad god that I am.

BTW, I like the new sig line Orla. Very good. :) :thumb2

Legends :bow

I like my bike too much to throw it in to a river though but each to their own of course. :)

Carnage at Achill

What top day out.

11 GSs, 11 great people to ride with, at one point it took around 3 hours to cover 3 miles and in that time the group became a team with everyone in good humour and all helping each other.

This is what it's all about.:clap

The day started off gentle enough with a run across the Island and up to a remote reservoir.
176517353-L.jpg

But mishaps were just along the first proper track with a small but deceptive stream crossing:blast
176519485-L.jpg

Forry took the left hand route and headed for the source of the stream:D
176522104-L.jpg

Whilst Owen has no problem:clap
176523279-L.jpg

And Daihi who didn't stop smiling all day:)
176523816-L.jpg

Orla hops over the stones very gracefully:thumb
176522646-L.jpg

After the first stream crossing we waited for Ritchie who was, lets say, a little enthusiastic with the front brake on a grassy patch...he made an entertaining arrival:D
176296006-L.jpg

Then along a lovely track where I believe 'someone ginger' had a little mishap;)
176527331-L.jpg

Waiting amongst the bags of cut peat
176528208-L.jpg

Ahead lay the daunting boulder field:eek:
Killian, who lead our ride, was, not surprisingly having problems
176527698-L.jpg

Forry lends him a hand:thumb
176528720-L.jpg

Killian reaches the top beneath a perhaps symbolic cloud and waves the rest up.
176530002-L.jpg

Even the approach was tricky and like 'lambs to the slaughter' we all took our turn.
176529168-L.jpg

Helping the others up was hot work and every so often off came jackets and helmets.
Forry cleaned the climb up the boulders without even a dab:bow
176530367-L.jpg

Whilst others had a few problems:blast :D
But before Wizard say anything I also messed up and dropped mine at the bottom too:eek:
176306199-L.jpg

Like I said, lambs to the slaughter:cool:
176282392-L.jpg

Matt's KTM didn't seem to be having quite the same problems as the GSs:mad:
176281902-L.jpg

Near the top Flash of the Gap goes for a spin in a vehicle that perhaps didn't make it back to the road:aidan
176284241-L.jpg

Brilliant pics Tim :bow :clap :bow

Whilst others had a few problems:blast :D
But before Wizard say anything I also messed up and dropped mine at the bottom too:eek:
176306199-L.jpg

Now that's what you call an 'action' shot :D Reckon it has to be one of the best pics I've seen in '07 :thumb2

I think this was Ritchie who took a tumble alongside Forry:blast
176306899-L.jpg

Forry was laughing so much he fell off too:D :D :thumb
..and you can see the boulders we had to cross ahead:eek:
176306830-L.jpg

Ahead of Daihi and myself Wizards rear tyre lets go on a wet rock and launched his bike skywards, thankfully landed in the soft peat bank.
We rushed to him fearing the worst, but the wee man bounced back up with a smile the only damage was a broken spotlight bracket..phew:thumb
176284850-L.jpg

And so on to our next challenge through lovely country:augie
176285398-L.jpg

The track ahead was washed out in places which entailed much precarious riding and often manhandling.
Killian goes first here.
176286088-L.jpg

near the 'deserted village'
176287634-L.jpg

Then one by one we passed through this section
176299551-L.jpg

It was just here where discovered the distinct disadvantage of H&B crash bars, their extra width tipped me off and as I fell, waiting for my bike to come down on top of me:eek:  when it didn't I looked up to see 3 burly guys holding it up...thanks lads I owe you one, that would have been painful:thumb :beerjug:
176288927-L.jpg

Proper GSing:clap
176289547-L.jpg

No complaints about it being too hard on this ride out:augie :thumb
176300934-L.jpg

All hands on deck
176290733-L.jpg

:guitarist :guitarist
176302167-L.jpg

Whenever it was tricky there was always someone to help.
176291893-L.jpg

:beerjug:
176303380-L.jpg

Daihi drops off the track and into the stream....he says it was intentional:aidan
176303868-L.jpg

It worked though:thumb
You can see the deserted village in the background, Owen had a bit of an off near there when he went over the handlebars, luckily just a dented tank and broken indicator...top man:)
176304714-L.jpg

just picking it up from the parking place:)
176294497-L.jpg

And so back to the road for lunch, but the fun didn't stop there, here Flash looks unconcerned as the first of three 1200s hit the deck on the lawn whilst parked:D :D :D :blast
176305938-L.jpg

On top of the hill....but not over it

At the end of the day came the Minaun challenge:eek:

Last year Fanum and I tried it without success and it's been bugging me ever since:mad:

So you can imagine the exilaration of making it to the top this time:bounce1

Orla was laughing so much she dropped her dakar at the top, and I know both Forry and myself were shouting inside our helmets when we cleared the bog with a big rooster and bounced over the rocks to the summit....YEEHAA!!
176308743-L.jpg

On the approach to the top and past the most difficult section, Owens flip front helmet dropped and the chinbar was in front of his eyes:blast he bounced off a rock fuming at his helmet:spitfire :D
176309274-L.jpg

But NOTHING was going to stop him reaching the top now:clap
176309778-L.jpg

GSing at it's very best:)
176310186-L.jpg

:roll we were all buzzing with excitment and savoured the moment up there with our bikes.
176310704-L.jpg

btw I've realised I was spelling Daithi wrong and apologise if I got any other names wrong
I know Forry has some fantastic photos which I'm looking forward to:)

The views from the top were fantastic and getting to the top really was the icing on the cake for a fabulous day.
Thank you all for your company:thumb
176311390-L.jpg

Tim, they are brilliant photos, my better half walked passed me as I was
looking at them and stopped to ask why was I grinning so much. Since I
wasn't in Achil at all :augie I said I'd just read a funny email. :green gri

What we did was a hell of a lot of fun but most of the reason it was so great
was the group of lunatics that were there. Again thanks for posting these pics.
BTW, my detour into the stream might not have been as intentional as I implied.

Feckin great fun though, roll on the Cambrian. :bounce1 :bounce1

176487667-L.jpg

Tim jumps onto his bike and heads straight for Dailthi and comes off.
