Anyone done it on a bike? I saw somewhere there's a place where they have a bike with what looks like stabilisers, but they lean with the bike. The idea being that you can learn a bit about controlling it when things go pear shaped. Sounds like good fun to me :)

I came off a demo bike in the summer (yeah yeah, I know), it was on a thick gravel road, strange bike, and I felt I controlled it well until it dropped, but my confidence has taken a bit of a bashing and I've found that I'm pussyfooting about a bit. My back's buggered at the moment so I don't think an offroad course would be a good idea just now.

I can't seem to find a place that does it round here, though maybe I'm not looking for the right thing. Any thoughts?

The California Superbike School (based at Rockingham) run a bike with giant stabilisers, but its not really a skid control course.

I've haven't been on their course but have only heard good things about it.

On the CSS the slide bike is used on all the levels. You only practice losing traction at the back on ,i think it's, level three. The idea is so that you get the back end to lose traction and then slowly shut the throttle to let it regain traction. It doesn't make the bike impossible to crash, and on the day i was there a couple of people had highsided, landing on the screen, and smashing it with there chest.

TBH if it's control on lose ground / gravel then it's probably an off road course thats going to be best. The CSS is excellent but it is all based on road / track riding.

Ah right thanks. I think that must be where I heard about it. Looks like great fun, even if there is still some danger in there. Would be a good idea anyway, though it's not really riding on the smooth stuff that's my problem, more to do with gravel/mud. Must've got my wires crossed somewhere.

Now speedway training, that's a good idea, not too expensive either. My main issue is with loosing the front end I reckon. Sounds like I should be sticking to offroad courses, though I'm assuming that a proper offroad course isn't a good idea if I've got a bad back. That said I'm getting it seen to, just waiting to see specialists and stuff at the mo.
