Managed to break the pair of plastic hinges on one of my 1150GSA alloy panniers (long story!). Rang the nice man at SPC to get a pair of replacements, only to find they are £20 each (ie £40 per box)

Pannier locking latches

Dropped my ADV last night :-( not much damage except for a front indicator and a Pannier locking latch. Anyone know if I can get a new one from either of these sources? Dont suppose anyone got a spare front indicator too? Cheers fellas

Aluminum Hinge Alternative

Not sure how much they would cost to ship to UK, but they have these Southco hinges at McMaster-Carr that are aluminum, not plastic. That's what I used to replace mine on my topbox when the wind decided to come up and break them both off. These won't break in a gentle breeze.

I read about it here on Advrider:

Yes, I know, just adding to the "Font of All Wisdom" thing in case anyone needs to replace their hinges and doesn't want to try the flimsy plastic ones again. However, I found a replacement clamp on eBay, but your best bet will probably be Motobins. I've seen them for sale there. I going to pop over to their site and see if I can't find you a link. Much easier on your end because they and you are in the UK, not the USA like I am.

I believe your looking for this part (#Part No.94591):

displayfinal.php

Anyway, see if it is one on this page, and if not do some searches -- I used the term lock, rather than latch.

I recently broke both of my hinges on one pannier on a trip to Norway. I tried to fix them with Araldite and failed miserably.

I found this thread (thanks very much) and started looking at the SouthCo website but got to thinking even if they are cheaper I don't want to replace them with the same ones ... so ...

SouthCo do some very nice black metal hinges for only slightly more than the plastic ones (and still less than half of the price of the plastic ones from BMW) . The holes are in the same position and they are constant torque position hinges so hold the lid in whatever position you want and you can use the original fixings (although slightly longer bolts may be an improvement)

These are them on the southCo website:

There are other varions such as different finishes and torque resistances (I went for the middle resistance and was lucky it is about right IMHO.

There's an excellent UK supplier called Zygology at www.zygology.com who carry them in stock.

Here are a few pictures:

Got a new pannier to frame latch/ lock from BMW £35 but as Gary has now pointed out you can get them from Motobins for around £15.

Only revived this thread because today I've just bust a hinge :(
