    Would like to recommend Bolams in Sedgefield, http://www.sedgefieldweb.co.uk/Bolams.asp

    There cafe does a carvery main coursefor £3.79

    It`s like sitting in a works canteen, but the value for money cannot be beaten.

    Nice, but even better the blue marlin (within the crazy golf course just along from minchelas cafe bike meeting point).

    Mama Rosa's, Cullercoats

    Not exactly a cafe or greasy spoon, more a lovely "Italian" restaurant.

    As far as I know; Several catering college students passed their exams and struggled to find employment, so persuaded a bank to lend them some dosh and opened a restaurant.

    I've been there half a dosen times now and the food is mint and the portions generous.
    On my most recent visit we had the olive "nibbles", Funghi Trifolati - superb herby/garlic mushrooms .. and I had a Pizza Infernale....

    Less than £25 a head including beers (Peroni) and 2 bokkles of red ...and tip.

    Bry-Moor Ice cream parlour.

    Does a lot more than Ice Cream :-)

    Thumbs up Cafe

    the cafe at the top of the Bank out of Stanhope its in that industrial waste land on the right it caters for cyclists who come up the cycle track following the old ralway line excellent food and service and there not averse to wet or muddy road stained customers.

    Smashing apple pie and custard just the job after cycling up from Swalwell on the Derwent Way.

    Friendly Tea Room. Home made Food. Owners into cycling but are also very biker friendly.
