happy birthday

'ello all,

Well, we made it to Morocco and at present are camping near the Erg Chebbi (Morocco's largest Sand Dunes). Wow...it was worth the wait in Spain. We've been and stayed in the imperial cities, Fes, Meknes, Casablanca and Marrakech and each was quite remarkable. Each city had it's highlights; the medina in Fes the snake charmers and bustle of Marrakech. The smells, taste and texture of life here is intoxicating and at times overwhelming with your senses bombarded continuously.

We managed to acquire our Mauritanian Visa without to much fuss at the Mauri Embassy in Casablanca. We'd expected to have to produce our Carnet documentation, explain why we didn't have return air tickets, etc, etc, but nope. We applied at 9am and picked up our 60 day Visa's at 12:30pm.

From Casablanca we traveled across the High Atlas mountains with some off-roading at 2500 metres (!) and then headed towards the Saharan dunes of the Erg Chebbi to do some sand bashing (sand practice for our Mauritania crossing). We have included some pictures of the dunes...simply unbelievable. The dunes exact an incredible draw. They are ancient, timeless and so bloody big. You simply can't help but be fascinated by them. We are still in the dunes at Merzouga waiting for a new prop shaft for the red 1100 GS (!) This is a part that 'never brakes' but has...........we hope to have this arrive soon by DHL and then we will fit it ourselves, our mechanical confidence is growing! Once done we will head down to Mauritania and then Senegal. We will probably be in Senegal for Christmas so the next installment will be around that time. If we can avoid future major bike problems we should be in Dakar for when the Paris-Dakar Rally finishes, so that should be wild. We can hopefully meet up with some friends involved in the Rally.

There's more detail in the travel log and we should have further updates covering our time in the sand up and running soon.

Bottom line is we are still having an incredible time and although cliche, each day really is an adventure.

Talk to you all soon

All the best

Simon & Lisa
