En route from Denmark to the IoM for the TT in May I have the dubious privelege of leading a gaggle of Danes from Hull to Heysham to catch the ferry.

As I don't know this part of the UK I would appreciate ideas regarding some good roads to use.

Unfortunately I am the only GS and my mates are on a collection of road bikes so any "dirt" sections are not a possibilty.

We will also be looking for somewhere to book for new tyres in advance so reccomendations would be appreciated.

If there is a "bike Cafe" enroute that would also be helpfull.

Time available is about 6 hours including tyre fitting.

Cheers

Mike

Stay motorway 'til Bradford then Hebden Bridge, Howarth, Colne, Clitheroe, Waddington, Inn at Whitewell for sustenance, Dunsop Bridge, over moors to Lancaster - 135mi

Order tyres ahead to fit on IoM?

Do you have a Garmin?

Thanks for the route.

I don't have a Garmin but I will see if the others have one.

Look to get tyres fitted in England

Trying to get tyres on IoM in TT week will be crazy and we only have 5 full days on IoM so I will be looking for tourances in England.

Ok; checked with my mates and we are Garminless.

Any suggestions by written word or map as above greately appreciated.

Still looking for a goo/reccomended tyre fitter in the north.

Tyres

There is a bike shop in Hull, called Revs I have had several sets of Tourances fitted there. If you want more info eg opening times, location etc. I can find out:D

This is of course a shameless plug for an Isle of Man business. Jason (a former TT racer) now runs the IOM BMW dealership and also is a dealer for Metzler Tyres. Drop him an email and he may be able to fit you. Check the prices though as carriage costs to the IOM tend to make things a little dearer.

Enjoy the TT

Just been informed that one of the guys has just bought a Garmin Zumo 550 so if anyone has Garmin "routes" to suggest I would be gratefull.

My suggestion would be to take the A road to York (A1079) I think, then A59 to Harrogate and stay on the A59 to Skipton. At Skipton follow signs A65 towards Kendal until you reach Clapham, then two choices.

Either turn left through Bentham towards Lancaster, quite good twisty road (Heysham is just through Lancaster and well signed but congested).

Or stay on the A65 towards Kirby Lonsdale and have a brew at the bike meeting place at Devil's Bridge (visible to the right just past the turn off to Lancaster (A683). After your brew and bacon butty (Danish Bacon?) retrace your steps and folow the A683 to Lancaster.

Similar distance to the route above, but no motorway and fairly easy to follow.

Signs are probably York - Harrogate - Skipton - Kendal - Lancaster so your group should have a good chance of staying together,

If it were me (and it used to be I live in Beverley and worked for the IOM steam Packet) I would leave Hull and head for Beverley (signposted from the ferry). Through Beverley and head for Malton B1240. Through Malton and head for Thirsk B1237 and A170. Through Thirsk and on to Ripon A61  Through Ripon and head for Masham A1609. Stay on same road to Leyburn and then join the A684 to Sedburgh. Then south on A683 to Kirby Lonsdale then onto M6 Junction 36 and south to Lancaster :( (not too far on the motorway) Through Lancaster to Heysham. You will need more time than using the motorway though. How long have you got? Some cracking roads among the above :D. oops just re read your post and I dont think you have enough time with tyre fitting! I would also recommend Miles Kingsport in Hull for the tyres, just book well in advance.

If you let me know what day you will be arriving in the uk I will gladly meet you at the Lancaster motorway junction 34 (this is the one you will leave the motorway to get to Heysham) and give you a personal escort to Heysham, Lancaster city centre can be a pain, just a thought to give you a hassle free final run to the ferry. It will take about 15 mins from the junction to get to the ferry.

Alternatively if you travel via kirkby lonsdale I can meet you at junction 36, there is plenty of room to park up there and take you the back roads to heysham avoiding the motorway (about 30-40 mins)

Let me know :thumb2

Hi Biker

Thanks for the offer.

Lets see what happens.

One of the group is a member of Politiets Efterretningstjeneste (PET), the Danish counter terrorism and security service and keeps threatening to bring one of their bikes with him.......probably some sort of 007 special with devices to clear the traffic!!!!!!

I will be in touch closer to the date.

Going in 2016. Also looking for nice road to take between Hull and Heysham. Have a Garmin zumo soo if annyone has the route in gpx that would be great.

I'd go along with this and stay well clear of the M62. A1079 past Beverley to York then A59.

Hi Mario, have a look at these routes. When you get to the A65 at Skipton there are 2 alternatives, both are good roads. There are long-term roadworks between Lancaster and Heysham, just follow the yellow diversion signs and the other bikes!

If you would like to see some beautiful English country including some of the Yorkshire Wolds and Dales I have a nice route in GPX format but it is too large to attach here, give an email address and I will forward it to you. Bear in mind the extra time it will take though.

The route is

Hull - Beverley - Malton - Sutton Bank - Thirsk - Leyburn - Reeth - Hawes - Ingleton - Hornby - Lancaster - Heysham
