Installing Autocom - Inside Bike or Tank Bag
Fellow tourers a question. In your experience is it better to install the Autocom hub inside the bike along with the Kenwood or have all the items in a Tank bag. Just debating in terms of practicality - security and ease of use (leads / connectors) etc. Any working knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

Eddie

KIT purchased so far :
Kenwood TK-3201 mark II
Garmin Zumo 550

sorry for re-post - on deadline

Your system can be tank bag mounted with ease all you will need is our detachable power leads Parts 1537 and 1538 £14 to allow for a power lead that will allow for your full comms to be taken away from your bike. Or are you looking at running a PTT as you will need a different part for this.

One thing though will the Zumo connection as this would need to be hard wired and left on the bike but you could run it so it comes out between the tank and the riders seat so it can be ran into the tank bag. if you are leaving your bike the lead could be tucked away under the bikes seat.

PTT

You mentioned PTT (would it be pos to explain) Thanks Eddie

PTT is a short cut of saying Push To Talk which is a handle bar mounted buttong and switch to connect the bike to bike if you are not wanting to run the systems VOX.

No worries, so if you are wanting to run via a PTT I would need to know to supply you the correct part number needed.

I am also thinking of having the unit in a tank bag, and was thinking of having the autocom, ipod and phone in the tank bag with all 3 items plugged into a 3 into 1 car type cigarette lighter adapter. the adapter would then have a din type socket in the end to plug into cockpit or underseat accessory socket. would this work? or would it trip out the canbus system?

Which bike ? If it is a any of the bigger boxer bikes there is plenty of room to fit the various bits of kit on the bike saves all the farting around with kit in the tank bag.

Zumo will need to be mount somehwere round teh handlebars anyway so there fore semi hard mounted.

my two pennies worth Oh and less likely to get nicked if you forgot your to take your tank bag off for some reason.

Will it work? YES.

Will it trip? NO.

The aux sockets trip at 5 amps, you are drawing nothing close.

We do not recommend bike powered phones due to the amount of interference they supply once powered via the bike. Also you will have to think that most of the phone connections or adaptors block off the charging point.

Music wise this will be fine, you will need to run an isolated music lead part 1314 £28 between the MP3 player and your system to again over come any bike interference.
