Anyone else bought the Utag ICE at the NEC?

I think it is a good idea, and seems to be easy enough to use.

My daughters tease me that I've got midlife crisis and am wearing a medallion though!!

Didn't buy one, but spent about 20 mins with the man while my brother was discussing prices for a bulk order. Seemed really easy to use (most of what I saw were just tick-boxes) and I particularly liked the idea of being able to keep scanned copies of your passport, insurance documents, breakdown details, registration documents etc on it in case the originals get lost or stolen.

If the plan comes off, Gwent Police are keen to give these as freebies to riders who have paid for their weekend Bikesafe courses. :thumb

Don't know the cost, but I bought a 4gb memory stick from a supermarket for £11 the other week :)

Just got to remember where I put it :(

Who's going to use it if your found unconscious?

Surely they find your wallet and your phone before messing with things like this?

If it's for yourself then the best place for scans of all your docs is a web based email account, gmail or hotmail, scan your docs then email them to yourself. There forever and downloadable using any pc with web access :)

Now that's a VERY smart idea.:thumb2
Why didn't I think of that.

And what good are they if there`s no details of who to contact or of any medication you may need..or allergies, etc ???
Finding a person`s address via their driving license isn`t much help if they live alone, for instance.

I always wear army metal dogtags engraved with my personal details as well as two emergency contactee details when I`m out...whether it be riding or simply out and about socialising or on the beer.
After all,an accident could happen at any time.

And furthermore, when I`m out on the beer,I only take some cash and leave my wallet/cards at home,so your wallet sugestion wouldn`t be any use in that instance.

Did mine this year, just a case of remembering to up-date the yearly ones :)

I think most peoples phones have home/Mum?Dad stored in them.

If you've got allergies to meds then, I think this digital USB type of thing isn't going to be as useful as it sounds, a simple engraved thing would be better.

This has been discussed on here before and I think an ambulance driver stated they wouldn't have access to a PC or the time to mess with a usb device.

My thoughts exactly. It would be interesting to know if any UK A&E ambulances or departments are kitted out to read these things, let alone further afield.

T'was I that started the last one and having read all the opinions posted decided not to use mine in the end.

It's very important for me to have some info that is easily accesible as I'm on shed loads of medication and have serious drug allergies, there's quite a bit of info to get over that'd be potentially life saving at the scene of an accident so an engraved dog tag is out as would be web based details

My answer is a bright red laminated card, with my photo and all relevent info that fits in the see through sleeve pocket on my twat suit.

If you read the testimonials on their web page not one is from someone who's had the thing used my a medical professional in an accident. Which is odd because thats when I'd be going back to the company and thanking them for their product.

It's a gizmo :D

I had the rep around trying to get me to sell them. While he was here I phoned 3 friends. 1 is a paramedic 1 is a senior paramedic and 1 teaches paramedic courses. None of them had heard of them. Two of them did not have a PC in the ambulance or helicopter that they worked in. (the other one didn't do house calls he said). They all only look for medical bracelets and thought these were a bad idea.

The paramedics are in London, Devon and Cornwall

I didn't buy them to stock and think people need to be aware that help will not use them.

Shame I thought it was a good idea at first.

it's a version of dogtag extreme travel insurance isn't it, we've used that for years and it sort of works so this could work as well however.... in and excuse me here... in dish-cloth and fan belt-a-stan can you really see some bindy bandy bandage head carrying a PC about ready to plug in your memory stick? to see if your allergic to plasters?

it's more likley they'll try to shag you while your still warm. and possibly moving...

good idea yes but better to spend the money on drink.... and buy a note book...:thumb2

AAHH so you've met my paramedic mate Martin then.

So far he's done 72 re sus and only got 1 survive:eek:

On the other hand Richards record is much better.

I've met and worked with a few medics and have come to the conclusion whatever is wrong it's best to keep quiet and keep walking.:thumb2

Dog tags

Must get a set of these to wear when I'm whatching my Band of Brothers cd!

I looked at these at the Calne Bike Show.. Did give it quite a bit of thought and decided against it.

I have made up a Credit Card size card using self printed Business Cards. Found a I.C.E. logo on the net so have that printed one side and my name etc on the other. This now stays in my wallet thought that would be the best as it's normally the first thing people look for.

Here is the logo.

a friend of mine works on the ambulances around the slough area and over a pint w were discussing these and he said they were a waste of money as most ids come from wallets or people on site, any detils on medi bracelets / necklaces has to be checked before acting upon it.

You can buy these from various places all for around £19.99. I thought about gettin one but then to be honest the first place that I would think of lookin to call is "mum" or "dad" in their mobile, and the wallet for their ID. I have an ICE ID set up on my mobile but do you think people really remember this method :nenau
