So when a bike gets crated up, does that mean you can put stuff in your panniers locked out the way, stupid question I know, never had it done before......:blast

So as a fallout question, how much stuff do you actually need to have in your hands when you're doing the airport thing, because I would have thought most stuff would be locked in the bike, presumably it's an overnight bag.....:nenau (couple of days clothes and toiletries)

Thanks......:D

used to import bikes from america, we used to load all the panniers etc up with "goodys, "never had a problem, , dunno bout over here though

so the panniers could stay on the bike in the crate then (topbox the same I would imagine)

used to crate fully laden goldwings up, even threw the helmets in too,

You can put everything into a crate for shipping.

When I ship mine (not crated), I lock all I can in panniers and have never had an issue.

I do take my crash helmet and my clothes etc as personal luggage just in case:D

I`ll double check on this for US importation as US customs have new guidelines and are particularly sensitive to anything coming in.

That's never going to stay upright y'know. :green gri

Least not when we get hold of it this afternoon Lloyd. :eek

IIRC
The USA Customs "may" want to check any storage afastened to the bike for contraband, Foodstuffs, drugs, gay porn, whatever...
They do have the right to inspect :thumb2
if you have locked them, they can open them anyway they wish :(

Best thing to do is leave panniers unlocked, but put TSA padlocks on pannier bags so they can open and search if needs be...

A risk is that someone can open box and carry off the whole bag - but in my opinion if someone was that brazen / serious they'd break into a locked pannier...

I worked on the assumption I was out to stop people nicking small stuff they could hide as they left work etc...

Didn't have a problem on the UK to Anchorage or New York to London flights...

bye bye bike....

Mine getting loaded into my van tonight head off tomorrow..
Packin nowt in boxs think i'll carry kit on plane.
