New Klim Adventure Suit

Just ordered one of these adv-suits from www.adventure-spec.com. I'm simply tired of suits with failing zippers or leaking membranes. Should be a good functionality for my all-year riding anyway with its Gore-Tex Proshell. Really looking forward to riding without the need to don an extra layer of waterproofs when precipitation cometh :bounce1

For what its worth, those guys ad adv-spec have stellar service and are keen motorcyclist in their own right. Nice people to deal with! :beerjug:

Found a cool link http://issuu.com/klimusa

Where did you try out the rally jacket?

I'm 6'3" with a 36" inseam and went for the size XL and pants size 36 after reading thoroughly the thread at advrider.
I allowed for a roomy jacket since I want to use it through future Norwegian winter seasons. At temps below -10C I use a Gerbing heated vest and heated socks in addition to handlebar muffs. That gives the flexibility I require for all-year riding.

Since the Norwegian importer only had a jacket size L and a pair of trousers size 34 I used the size table at www.klimusa and measured inseam, waist, chest and sleeve lengths after the criteria here:

Thanks I want to feel & see it in person rather than look at a website.

Cheers Wapping & wheeledwidewebb. Been 6'2" I dont want to be sending something back due to wrong size. UK > European size version.

I think this is the suit for me.

I live right near Coventry so its either up or down on that map ;) Cheers Dakar_Norway, I think the ktm center uk needs visiting this wednesday.

If you contact adventure spec, they will make sure that wherever you want to try a suit on has one in your size, at least they did for me.
I needed to try the bigger sizes and they sent a suit down to the KTM center for me to try.

Sod Rukka. If it compares favourably to the rest of the KLIM range it is worth the money. May well invest in some of these post my sunny summer trip. :)
I decided to get another Rukka (ArmaS) in the end, due to the readily available dealer network and the fact I wear much lighter clothing when on the dirt so I only really want it for road riding.

Adventure-spec go to great length to assure you get the proper size, and when my suit arrives in a few days I was promised free return of the non-fitting issue.
For me that's truly good service and will keep me coming back for more.:beerjug:

Klim have put together the mother of all adventure suits, built with a Gore Tex outer so no more water soaked outers. Here are some pics, taken from ADVRider:

Built in armour:

Only issue - price... looks like it's going to be 1200+ pounds for the suit :(

if i had to wear all that bollocks when riding my bike si would wrap in!

I got offered the Armas kit from Infinity motorcycles, Farnborough. For £1,600. £400 off there asking price (jacket+trousers), but I am desperate for some serious long lasting kit. So roll on wednesday!

In my all-year riding a pair of "waterproof" trousers lasts max 2 years before starting to leak in the crotch, and I've yet to see a conventional cordura + Gore-Tex jacket that remains waterproof and keeps the zippers intact more than 3 years. After 3 decades of this I'm ready for something more lasting and functional. I'm tired of donning an extra layer of waterproofs outside a so called waterproof Gore-tex suit with an outer sponge of cordura and an inner membrane. Too cumbersome with all that procedure since I ride all-year, both commuting to/from work and also ride for leisure & fun.

The last 10 years I've used up/worn out two Dainese Gore-tex jackets, one Sinisalo enduro jacket, a pair of enduro trousers and countless waterproofs. Time to get something more enduring. Rukka has 5 years warranty, while Klim has lifetime warranty. Although Rukka has a more available dealer network here in Norway, no Rukka suit comes even close to the Klim Adv suit in on- & offroad versatility and neck brace compatibility.

Its load carrying capability with that inbuilt harness system and external pockets is unique and makes my gravel/dirt/offroad riding more easily enjoyable and also enhances my commuting and touring capabilities.

Compared to the similarly or more expensively priced Rukka Proshell suits (SRO, Armax, Armas etc.) the Klim Adv suit adresses both Leatt Brace compatibility and is the first and yet only suit on the entire market that also waterproofs the neck brace solution with the enclosed and optional neck brace collar.

For my all-year, all-weather riding there's no other suit on the market that adresses all desired checkpoints like the Klim Adv. suit. I expect it to last for nearly a decade to come.

YMMV :beerjug:

Pop in the KTM Centre Gunzenbomz, they'll sort you out. Im pretty sure they've got everything in stock, just to be sure pm me your rough size and i will give them a buzz and fill any gaps in their size sets.

Ive been putting a few miles on my Rally suit over the last couple of weekends. A few pics below, i will be putting a bit of a report on our website (www.adventure-spec.com) in due course

Stucked!

Suit came with DHL Express today (recommended!). Much to my delight it fit perfectly.

Although my sleeve measured 31,1/2" the XL jacket provided perfect sleeve length when seated on the motorcycle - arms forward in correct riding position. Klim specifies sleeve lenghts 30"-32" for size L and 33"-34" for size XL. Jacket was roomy enough to allow a Lindstrand Tribal armour suit underneath with the surprisingly thin and unobtrusive D3o armour underneath. Bodes well for my all-year usage in inclement weather.

Pants sized 36 also fit well. My CTI orthopedic knee braces fit well underneath and pant length was precisely as wanted.

Collar, you may ask? As mentioned on the advrider thread the non-Leatt collar feels a bit clumsy and big at first, but my short ride downtown for shopping ( nasty grin ) showed no real neck chafing trouble or ordeals. I left it half open and tucked the non-closed flap inwards, and presto: No probs. I certainly don't need to send it in to Klim for a modification yet. I simply used a thin buff to keep splatterbugs away from neck area and quickly felt comfortable. My priority is its abilities in inclement weather, and it seems well capable of holding water and snow away - and that's why I bought this thing in the first place - to be ridden hard and mercilessly through Scandinavian all-year climates.

The harness system may need some fine-tuning, but was intuitively constructed and easy to use - right out of the box.

Temps today measured on the 800GS temp gauge were +19,5 to 21 C and all vents were opened and worked very well. Got sweaty when dangling into the liquore store and grocery shops, but that's to be expected. It's still vastly superior to any similarly or more expensively priced Rukka Proshell-suit ventilation-wise and more designed for my personal user specs.

This suit's just waiting to be flogged through its first summer and winter now!:beerjug:

Horses for courses......
I think the Klim kit is ideal for the people it is aimed at.
Total overkill for road riding, but ideal for long distance trips that required the rider to carry enough clobber to cope with most eventualities. These trips will probably include riding unsealed routes.
The built-in webbing in the jacket means you can do away with externally draped bags/storage, similar to that sold by Kriega, plus the drink bladder is another integral part..... so it's all adding up.
Although the neckbrace is not my cup-of-tea, many do use the devices, but struggle to find a waterproof jacket that will accommodate it.

Timpo.

I understand the criticism against the non-Leatt collar better now. It simply stands out as not-so-well-finished and less functionally solid than the rest of the suit as a whole. It takes some trial & errors to make it work, and in the end it looks a bit sloppy and untight compared to the stellar quality of the rest of the setup. It's still functional and does a fair job, but doesn't have quite the same quality level as the other components. Its somewhat insufficiently placed and sized velcro patches also doesn't make it fully wind- and waterproof every time one tries to close the collar against wind & weather. Takes some getting used to, to say the least and a redesign to make it more user-friendly and weatherproof wouldn't hurt. :beerjug:

Velcro pocket flaps are not so practical for everyday usage, but gives rock solid confidence about the content's whereabouts during a hectic day of riding or more. I'd say this shows some heritage to its Rally-philosophy. Consider the fact that its prototypes participated in Rally Dakar and performed well within that setting. Kudos to Jonah Street etc. for helping the design team. :bow

The only fault that I can find with the jacket is that the cuffs need to open a little further, to allow some glove's longer cuffs to fit underneath more easly.

I am going to have a small panel inserted into the jacket's cuffs at the end of the season to cure this problem.
