Thread: Riding The Roof of the World (Kazak, Kyrg, Tajik, Uzb, Turk)

candid portraits of our stern military escorts in Pakistan

Thought I'd share a few images that I managed to capture during our last few days in Pakistan.

nothing like taking a group snap shot to get the audience warmed up. All of them nice enough guys but it's a sobering thought/reality, that not only do these soldiers have one hell of a tough life, but are literally putting their lives on the line, should someone decide that we make good targets. Food for thought?

a few stolen images over an early (5am) breakfast inside their freezing tent.

I'd spent 30 minutes chatting as best i could with this young camp-cook before asking his permission to allow me to take his photo. I'm pleased with the result, it captures the atmosphere.

    ...if looks could kill!?!?!?

next we're planning on riding backwards, naked RTW...Lisa tried it once through Iran and things went pear shaped

Having just made the graphic for our 2011 photo calendar I thought I'd post it here.

We've just arrived in Thailand our 70th country. When we set out we thought it was possible to ride to 122 in one journey so we have 55 to go, so we're just over half way. The crazy part is when we left the UK we planned to do this ride in 18-24 months.

Here's the map of our actual route so far. We heard from the 'powers that be' recently to say we can claim the world record for the 'longest continuous motorcycle ride by a team', having more than doubled the mileage of the current record, but we'll probably make the claim when we finish the ride and arrive back in the UK with our bikes.

From Bangkok (at present) we're going to ride to northern Thailand and then into Laos, Cambodia, Thailand (south), and then south into Malaysia, Borneo, Indonesia, en-route to OZ. Then we're planning on returning to Africa to explore the countries we couldn't ride through in 2004-2005. We have to be flexible though as I'm still trying to work out how to grow a set of extra kidneys, for sale on the black market. I know from experience kidneys raise more than testicle's...:rofl

    Cheers, stay posted
