Hi All,

Sorry very new to the forum and have spotted the Gathering of the Clans and would love to join. I'm riding around the Islands from the 7th June for a week so this ties in well.

Are you riding from Ullapool on both the Friday and Saturday? Just trying to sort accommodation and assume it's ok just to join the trip.

Cheers

Plan you ask? Not with this lot :augie

Show up in Ullapool on the Friday, meet up/join some folks for a few :jager at the campsite or pub. Enjoy the blether well into the night and stagger into bed. Saturday, hearty breakfast, join a ride out (well some of us anyway ::eek) Enjoy the ride out, speak more bollox along the way. Return to base, more :jager:beer:. Move along on Sunday, simples :D

This thread http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=191094 below may provide a bit more info. Accommodation varies from camping, bunkhouse, B&B to hotel. Ullapool is fairly user friendly.

Apart from that, no real plan required, just go with the flow :thumb2

Oh, and this linky will give you a feel for last year's do in Ullapool:

Thanks for the post

That's a great help. I'll head up for Friday and see how the weekend pans out with some riding and drinking :jager. Sounds like the perfect combo just not at the same time perhaps.

See you there

Naks' summed it up perfectly. It's not a 'rally' as such. No beertent or music. Just chill, drink, eat, socialise and go out on the bike if you feel like it.

No need to book the campsite - just turn up. If you want B&B - I'd suggest booking NOW. Otherwise you'll struggle to get somewhere.

BTW, how far up Shetland are you going? Are you planning on going all the way up to Unst?

Unst

Thanks Klanky also for the post:

Working on the plan now for my trip. Just booked into the Royal Hotel 4/5 June and plan to join the Saturday ride you have organised. Sunday I'm heading to Scrabster for the ferry to Orkney. Planning a couple of quick dives there Mon or Tue and then onto Shetland.

I just need to be back in John O Groats by Friday night as a mate is cycling the length of Britain for charity.

If you have any recomendation on where to go on the islands, where to stay or camp let me know. never been this far north so open to ideas.

Cheers and look forward to meeting you all on the Friday night for a few :jager.

The St Margarets Hope ferry was good (we were almost on the Top Gear Porsche race with the mail video) last year and we stayed at:

Which was a great location. Loads to see on Orkney but the hospitality isn't up to much.

Good luck with the diving. If I had a dry suit ticket I would be interested in doing that. On the drive from St Margarets Hope to the main island there are a couple of dive shacks near the wrecks.

Rico - Plan to o the dry suit ticket one day, dive the big recks the next day :) 35m ish

And thanks all for the ideas

I should have got off my arse and done that - now I have to go back to work. Next time I take some time off I'm going to make it in the summer.

Let me know how that goes as I could do that in a weekend from here easy. Even this far north John o'Groats is still 3hrs away.

...and these guys are playing in The Ceilidh Place on the 4th

A fusion of Scottish and Indian music FFS! Sounds like a warm up to a terrible curry. Try this link to some of their stuff on YouTube, a version of AC/DC Thunderstruck with the pipes. Should be a good night!
