For those thinking about going but delaying booking a ferry crossing it maybe usefull to know that the Cap Finistère that sails from Portsmouth to Santander can carry a maximum of 60 motorcycles. Given that it is Moto Pistons weekend, I think if I was considering going I would book sooner
rather than later. Brittany Ferries only take a £25 deposit on reservation.

I'll go with the flow on this one, looks great :thumb2

Booked in at Casa Gustavo :thumb2:thumb2

Andy (Number 6) will be good to see you again :bounce1

Undecided which way to come down, have to be in the right mood for a 24 hour ferry crossing so might bike it down through France.

Yeah really looking forward to this, the more i read last years trip report and other ride reports it makes me think i should really be doing this trip on a pre 1980 bike:blast, oh well ill have to start looking and see what comes up, at least ive got 7 months:eek:

yes. i did it last year on a GSA and really wished i was on a classic. but it was part of a much bigger trip where i needed the speed and comfort of the newer bike, especially as i was two up.

this is a long w/e, solo, so i can take what i want :)

the route of 5000 curves is 286 miles though :mmmm

:moped:mm tempted
(pity the curves rally pre 1980 rather than over 25yr old bike .
could have used the G/S)

is the 5000 curves a public route, that you could go on say the monday?

I read that "modern "bikes spoilt it by going on the run with the old uns.

Hotel Del Oso

Anyone got experience of this place?

Did a speculative enquiry and they have vacancies at 54E a night and 10E for a breakfast.

How far is away from where everyone else is staying / from the event etc

Starting to seem more and more likely I'll be on that Wed ferry from Portsmouth...........

Who else is going on the Wed ferry?

Brilliant hotel and much famed for it's cuisine

Rooms are clean, well appointed and comfy

The log fire will be lit in Oct too

It's about 10 miles from us and about 30 miles from the rally @ Colombres

What are you going to be riding Cookie,

in descending order of likelihood:

76 moto guzzi le mans

77 moto guzzi convert (if it's raining a lot. it has a fantastic screen)

86 r80g/s (if both the above throw a sicky, which is unlikely :mmmm )

06 gsa (last resort. never gonna happen :mmmm :mmmm)

it's all public roads. you can ride it anytime you like.

we were some of those modern bikes last year, and there wasn't that much new kit on the roads that i remember. dunno how we could have spoiled it for anyone though? :nenau

have to say, i did see some old boy on a douglas shake his fist at one of or lot for no reason as he was overtaken. i wish i could remember who it was.

This sounds like it could be fun. I'm worried about altitude sickness though. Is it dangerous riding so high?

Cookie
oh what choices and decisions:comfort, look forward to seeing what you decide, ime airing towards a late 70's jap muscle bike, Kawasaki z1300 or similar, not quite as exotic as the Guzzies but an appreciating classic none the less;)
