Honda CB250RS with Charging Problems

Hi, Just bought a CB250RS for a Rat Bike challenge. It has a problem with the Reg output being only 3v at tickover rising to around 6v at the revs rise. Could this be the regulator playing up or the alternator? It starts and runs ok - kick only and I could do the challenge on 6v as the lights work, but not very bright.

Good link. My guess would be failed diode(s) in the rectifier.
