43 entrants from the UK this year, I have paid my final instalment and although some people have a list of 100 things to do before they die, I have had only one item on my list, by entering this Rallye I think i have a good opportunity of combing the above two tasks! Although THE DAKAR is the biggy I am just realistic enough to realise that I would not be able to make the grade for that one, but to enter a race in Africa is certainly a childhood dream come true.

Here is a taster if you are considering it i guess with 43 UK entrys a few guys who frequent this site will be there? final date for entry is Feb 1st 2012.
I saw in TBM a GS that entered last year! (he must have a good spade):D

Preperations

I thought about doing the Tuareg this year in March 2011 but with no real experience of anything longer than a Hare and Hounds enduro which is 2.5 hours I decided to try some longer events. So in the Summer I entered the Kielder K2 rally which i hoped to give me a feel if I would still be smiling after 4/5/6 hours on a bike. I entered the 450cc class my start number was in the 70's The Kielder K2 turned out to be great fun and not too strenuous. I mentioned to the guy riding on the number above me in the Kielder Rally perhaps No:74, I was entering the Tuareg in 2012 and it turned out to be a fruitful conversation as he had ridden the Tuareg 3 times, he watched me ride over the weekend and offered to put me in contact with the guy who offers an assistance service for the Tuareg. By the way this guy was fast on the fire roads and it was a real struggle to keep up with him. So much so that on the Monday morning I had numerous bruises not from falling off but from stones chucked up from his rear wheel, the wife was doubtful of what i had been away doing that weekend!
The Kielder K2 also made me aware of the Big Bike Rally Challenge which looks like a great series, i now have a saved search on Ebay for a 690R so I can do all the BBRC events next year.

After the Kielder K2 I entered the Dawn to Dusk 12 hour class, just to make sure I was not throwing my money away by entering the Tuareg next year. The Dawn to Dusk was to put it mildly fecking hard but i was quite pleased with myself to complete the 12 hours but the next night at home I did not have the strength left in my arms to get out of the bath!

<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/oslc0fLU1wh9BL2VtWdN19MTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-nrttY4eWigA/Tt6HW-7hr7I/AAAAAAAAAMY/PYJwttyTOjY/s800/dtod.JPG" height="415" width="275" /></a>

<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/RGpUNZIvpFOVeksGReIMH9MTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-1yNQl4t7MnE/Tt6HWsZtCZI/AAAAAAAAAMU/vo6lHDwOm5E/s800/dtd1.JPG" height="268" width="402" /></a>

Anyway once the aches and pains faded I made contact with the guy providing assistance, I mentioned No74 from the kielder rallye had given me his ph number and that I wanted to Enter the Tuareg in 2012 and hoped I could tag along with No:74 for the event to which Mr John Hall agreed to.

John informed me that No:74 had come third or fourth in Tuareg which i was unaware of so I would need to be able to ride at a reasonable pace so that John who will look after 6 riders during the rallye will not have to hang around at the end of a stage for a straggler ( who could he mean?) no pressure then :eek

So my bike will transported to/from the start/finish of the Rallye in Spain I will fly out then it will be up to me to service the bike each night, dinner will be provided and I will be met at each liaison with fuel. If I have a major mechanical failure John have some KTM parts & will endeavour to fix it :thumb. I think the 6 assistance places have now been taken but I heard that Martin & Donna of http://www.torqueracing.net/page9.htm are going to the Tuareg in 2012 and may have a couple of assistance places available. certainly worth giving them a call anyway as they are pretty knowledgeable and more importantly nice, (Martin will be working as mechanic at the Dakar in Jan 2012)

So that's how I ended up at this point In the Uk certainly the Big Bike rally Challenge is probably the way to go prior to an overseas event like this, If it turns out to be as hard as the dawn to Dusk i'm well fecked :bounce1

That looks like a huge amount of fun and hard work. Good luck.

serg
keep an eye out on our web site big bike rally challenge for our rally training days dates ,its right up your street and what rally riders are crying out for ,,,,moly

:bow

Good luck! That sounds like a real adventure, keep us posted on progress and the post-race report :thumb2

(Saw your link to Torque Racing - I'm going to be calling them in the new year to book some off-road training :augie )

Mmmm looks fun

Yes it should be, the great thing about this Rallye is their are two ride options for riders

Hard route, which I am told is hard you can start the Rallye in this class but at the end of day one you have the option to switch to the easier route if you feel you are struggling

Soft route this is described as more of a off road cruise and if you wake up one morning knackered you can have a rest day then join back in the rallye the day after without penalty or being discluded from the results.

Groups of Competition

- car professional
- car amateurs
- motorcycles professional
- motorcycles amateur

Every competitor is free to select his group (professional or
amateur). Scoring inside a sub category will only be
possible if the competitor is confirming the terms of
the group and if he choose this group. There will be
no automatic scoring in a sub category. A change of
group or sub category is possible before 22:00 on the
first day without penalty. From the second day and
later no change is possible.

The group of amateur

The Amateur group is for drivers witch prefer the rally character of the tracks. The tracks are mostly the same as the profigroup . The difficult Offroad parts of the profigroup will be bypassed . This group is suitable for beginners and Rallye Experts which don't like the hard enduro
character of the tracks.
The route covers tracks, dunes and middle difficult offroadparts.

The group of professionals
The group of professionals is for rally and offroad experienced drivers. Here are normally drivers and teams with competition experience (jeep trial, enduro, motocross, other rallies) at home. The route covers additional difficult mountain and river bed tracks. In the dunes 200 kilometres stages with up to 200 meters high dunes are waiting. Average running time 7-9 hours per day

Thats great news Jonnywave hope we can meet up in Almeria, I might even invest in a Tosser sticker for the event, Seat wise I hope this new one will make a real difference about eight hours in to the Dawn to Dusk it was too painful to sit down at all on the original seat.

Please post up some pics of your bike and keep this thread updated of how you are progressing :beerjug:

Rallye Tool Carriers

Anyone got any experience of using these on a 7 day rallye to carry items ? I am thinking of buying three to strap to the forks and frame, one for each.
1.a tool kit
2. medical emergency kit
3. a litre of water

I would like to know if they are likely to withstand a week of vibration please?

Whats your thoughts

<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/z8M8sDmEDjtPXYoY1cU0qNMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-c8fYJe5-TuM/TuzNBrWzasI/AAAAAAAAANw/ZakgOxtLJhw/s800/tool_tube.JPG" height="462" width="750" /></a>

tubes

dont think they will last the distance, how about a giant loop mo javi set up . I have one of there bags and it seems very tough, it lasted a trip down portugal with out any problems. nice to see your making headway with the bike keep us upto date ......

sand and grit

mine got really hard to open and close on the Dalton after all the dust and stuff,, i suspect the sand maybe a wee problem! you would have to make some brackets as the plastic bits on them give up pretty quickly..
