I've done this a couple of times but wondered what the long term effects might be.

Returned home after a particular wet journey. Textiles soaked through (gortex saved my skin). Chucked the kit into the tumble drier set to low and dried the soggy things ready for the next days journey.

Damage?

I can't imagine any damage caused, other than increased wear from rubbing round in the drier. :nenau

Check the care label on your jacket. Most Gore-Tex clothing actually comes with a recommendation to tumble dry on cool or cool iron, after washing, to reset the DWR (Durable Water Repellant) coating on the face fabric of the garment.
