I have been getting a BSOD lately, I've run the WD diagnostics and it looks as though the hard drive is failing.

Can anybody offer any advice on how to choose one and change it?

The current drive is 500GB but this is probably a chance to upgrade.

Most drives are decent quality these days, I use WD/Seagate/Samsung quite happily and 1GB seems to be a good price point.

Attach the new drive to the system, then use something like Acronis or PartitionManager to copy the old drive to the new and increase the partition size to fill the drive (or make a second partition to use the extra space, as you prefer).

Remove old drive, reboot, let the o/s settle into its new home.

Always good to replace the HD, they are cheap. I leave my old drive in as a slave.
