Looks like we've had a last minute drop out because of an injury so it looks like I will have a space on this trip available. It's very last minute but as the container won't load until the start of July, there is plenty of time to sort the paperwork etc.

C'mon, you know you want to do it and it will be the best dirt riding of your life :thumb2

Soon be time to wash the dust down again:beer:

umm if only this finnished a week earlyer I could have come on this and then ride to the burning man festival. now that would have been a good trip.
if i was to fly out and buy a bike would it be possible to ride with this trip ?

Mike/Gaz/Bilco - is this on the TAT route?

The pics near the bottom on here suggest it might be.

Certainly worth doing on the day off if not.

Just before you get to Moab on the TAT, you travel down flat sands road. Just before you get to the end is "slickrock" mtb park. It is for mountain bikes, but there are also 4x4 routes as well. The good news is motorcycles are allowed to use All the tracks with the exception of a few. Tourist information in Moan can supply a map.

Its well worth riding, the sandstone offers fantastic grip, and the route is very challenging, but nothing that can't be ridden with some thought and patience. Look up slick rock on youtube.

Just don't break down on "hells revenge". :blast

MMoab powersports is also 5 minutes away if you need tyres/spares/ recovery or service. Dorrica is very customer focused :)

If this works you should be able to see us on the 'Practice Loop'. If you don't fancy that then just do 'The Lions Back', it sits on its own and you literally ride up one side and down the other, spectacular even on its own.

I'll have a bash at that :thumb2

I guess you are still out there? When are you finishing?

We start from around Animas Forks, CO, next weekend.

Any probs with the XCh on your trip?

If you are a week or two ahead of us it would be good if you can post on this thread any current issues about availability of fuel or accomodation that you come across.

cheers

Hi Gaz, yep me & Nathan (Losttheplot) are still here, arrived in Battle Mountain earlier today. A few points off the top of my head:-

- I regret not bringing a 14 tooth front sprocket as I've struggled on a few sections where Nathan's breezed it, mainly stepped climbs but also on the Moab stuff.

- I assume youve got the expansion fuel tank? We did 244 miles on the section from The Border Inn (this is the ONLY place to stay) on highway 50 near Baker Nevada to Eureka Nevada. Road book reckons its only 215 and we both limped into town on reserve. We stupidly hadn't filled up (at Lanes Cafe, mile marker 126 on Nevada route) when we had a chance as we didn't believe we needed it!

- Bike snags. My battery failed terminally and left me stranded in >100 Deg in Moab playground! My throttle cable snapped so we've used our spare. Nathan's managed two punctures, a set of front wheel bearings (4000 miles) and his chain was shot after 2500m. I'm running all Talon stuff, no probs at all.

Other than that they've been brilliant, mpg is great even on the low RON with ethanol junk. We've now done over 6000 miles with Oregon next to come.

If you want to send an FR on Facebook you can glean more stuff etc. (Dave Hodgson)

Otherwise, you will have an absolute ball I'm sure. Any ?? please shout :thumb2

Hi gaz,

Animas forks is just outside Silverton, which has some cracking passes. We spent 2 week's in the area. If you get time check out Imogene pass (runs north of Telluride to Oprah) and black bear pass. Just be careful on blackbear pass, one local suggested as many as 15 fatalities have accrued on this pass, but all in jeeps. There is video footage on pinkytiffs Facebook page showing me walking my bike Down the worst section.

I've just found a copy of the trail map for slickrock, but I can't post it using my phone. I can email It to you if you PM your address over.

Pinkytiff is also using an app called geospike, which logs his GPS position and tags.photos with it, again link is on his Facebook page.

No real problens with fuel and accommodation, but maybe try and book a day or so in advance for the border inn, just outside baker, NV.

Hth

Nathan

OK, great info, very useful.
Will send a request on FB, it'll come from Bertie Randall (my alter ego, a dog, privacy paranoia etc.) :D
