Cracked it! I have booked us all in to Annecy....

One double room: Gone to Ian & Bernie

    Seven single rooms:

    2. iand46
    3. tommymoto
    4. wessie

I have cancelled the twin room.

I have confirmed this booking to the hotel.

Now the next bit of news......

We are taking a lot of rooms at what is the height of the season, so I have had to pay (via my credit card) a significant deposit amounting to about 1/3 of our total bill, which the owner will debit me for sometime next week.

As we are all grown up, I don't mind doing that on the very clear understanding that I WILL recover the cash from you happy Tossers.... Let's deal with that later. But if anyone has a problem with the concept, sing-up, now....

Now to sort out our hotels en-route.....

    Richard
    Richard,

I am happy to PayPal you my deposit. Just let me know the amount.

Richard, in the unlikely event you have a cash flow crisis then send me your BACS sort code & a/c no and I'll transfer funds as required.

Chunnel booked - I've selected earlier crossings as I have further to travel on the UK side so getting to the first overnight stop for a nap before going for the Pays de Calais specialities of tartiflette & pizza suits me. Same on the way back, an early afternoon crossing so I can get back for dinner time.
This space deliberately left blank as the author writes too much pretentious bollocks as it is.

If you have had to front up - I think we should pay that to you now - do you want to PM BACS details and the amount due?

    Right ho….

Progress on lots of fronts and some changes.

I have juggled our stay in Annecy around a bit. To be honest, this was to accommodate my friends (and past Wanderers) Ian and Bernie, who will be coming over earlier and travelling down separately from us on the way down.

It also made it easier as our hotel in Avallon doesn’t have a restaurant, so overnighting there is easier on a Saturday.

    Hotels confirmed are:

Friday 23 August - Ibis, St Omer – 7 single rooms

    http://www.accorhotels.com/gb/hotel-...re/index.shtml

Saturday 24 August – Dak Hotel, Avallon- 7 single rooms AND separately one double room for Ian and Bernie in Annecy

    http://www.dak-hotel.com/

    Sunday 25 August / Monday 26 August / Tuesday 27 August / Wednesday 28 August - Arcalod Doussard - 7 single rooms & one double room

Thursday….. To end..... TO BE SORTED OUT!

If anyone wants to call in for a chat or needs a bed for the night on the way out or way back, just let me know.
I'm tired of giving a reason when the future is what we believe in.

    Went past your hotel today.....

    Looks very nice.....

Well, will do when its finished....

And they've repaired the fire damage....

And got rid of the refugee camp....

    Looks good though....

Having problems with landslides etc in the area closing roads last few days. Be sure to spend a few minutes in Old Annecy...well worth the looking. Park on the pedestrian area in front of the Mairie on the main drag.

Right, all our hotels are booked, including the odd combination to accommodate Ian and his wife Bernie, who are travelling down independently of us and going home ahead of us.....

Friday 23: Ibis, St Omer - 7 singles

    http://www.accorhotels.com/gb/hotel-...re/index.shtml

Saturday 24: Dak hotel, Avallon - 7 singles plus one double at Arcalod hotel, Doussard

    http://www.dak-hotel.com/

Sunday 25 to Wednesday 28 inclusive: Arcalod hotel, Doussard - 7 singles / one double

    http://www.hotelarcalod.fr/accueil_en.html

Thursday 29: Ibis, Dijon, central - 7 singles / one double

    http://www.ibis.com/gb/hotel-0654-ib...l/index.shtml#

    Friday 30 and Saturday 31 inclusive: Pelican hotel, Charleville-Mezieres - 7 singles

    http://hotel-pelican-charleville.com...m_chapitre=285

    So:

    (a) That is one night in St Omer and Avallon, on the way down.

    (b) Four nights in Doussard, near Annecy

    (c) One night in Dijon, on the way back

    (d) Two nights in Charleville-Mezieres, on the way back

    Thoughts:

    (a) The very rough Google mileages, avoiding payage are:

    (i) Calais to St Omer: 25 miles

(ii) St Omer to Avallon: 300 miles, but we can motorway a chunk out to say Cambrai, if required

(iii) Avallon to Doussard: 200 miles

(iv) Doussard to Dijon: 150 miles

    (v) Dijon to Charleville-Mezieres: 200 miles

(vi) Charleville-Mezieres to Calais: 170 miles

The balance is reasonably good, I think.

    (b) Total rough town-to-town-to-town mileage: 1,045 miles. Add in whatever day out riding we could do over the four days where we are not travelling (say 200 each) and we'll be banging on the two thousand miles plus.

    (b) There is some good riding to be had around Charleville-Mezieres (where we have a full day) and the route back from there to Calais is good, too.

    (c) I have created a very simple Google maps version of the rough route, just to give everyone a feel for what it looks like.

    https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr...mra=ls&t=m&z=6

    (d) I will knock some Gramin friendly GPS routes together, too. But, really I am open to suggestions and / or bods are free to do their own thing on all or any of the days.

    (e) I will tot-up the deposits I paid and divide them equally between everyone, according to the number of nights in each hotel.

    (f) For coffees, snacks or whatever I suggest we have a kitty, to use as we go along.

    (g) All of the hotels are B&B basis, except for our nights in Doussard, which is half-board. The hotel in Avallon doesn't have a restaurant, but we'll sort summat out. For travelling days, it often works out quite well just buying some rolls, stopping as fancy (and the weather) allows.

    (h) I will at some time ping everyone my mobile number. If you can send yours back to me, that would be great. I then propose to circulate everyone with each other's numbers, so we can all stay in touch in different sized groups when on the road. Rather than bombard everyone with PM's I'll type them up into one sheet and hand them out in St Omer.

    (i) What else? Just the usual stuff, please:

    (a) Assuming we all leave St Omer together, let's have a full tank on setting out. It makes things much easier through the day.

Similarly, if we are setting off together from any of the other hotels, let's all try to have full tanks, for exactly the same reason. Those riding alone, or with others can do exactly as they please.

    (b) Travel / breakdown insurance.... A very good idea, not least as it will help someone to help YOU (and / or ME) if it all goes pear-shaped.

    Richard

Thanks for all the planning, I'd be pulling my hair out (if I had any) trying to put this together. Excellent idea having a kitty for the coffee stops en-route.

Sounds great. I've passed through Charlie Mez a number of times so it will be interesting to stop and have a proper look.

I'll probably be a solo rider most of the trip, meeting everyone else for beer & food of an evening.

    Cheers, chaps

I haven't stayed in C-M either, just passed through it in assorted directions. I have tried to stay at the Pelican (a bizarre name) but it's always been full.

    Excellent Richard - looks good.
Many thanks for your work on this.
