Scooters - are they cost effective?

What the manual recommends and what the dealer does is a different matter.

What the manual recommends and what the dealer does is a different matter.

Which my wife discovered when a Honda dealer carried out the 8k service on her CBF250. The service schedule in the manual said the valve clearances should be checked and they didn't bother, claiming it wasn't necessary. We insisted they check the valve clearances which showed one valve was tight and needed adjustment. If a warranty claim arises out of a dealer not servicing a bike correctly will the manufacturer/importer honour it? Or will they blame the dealer and you then have to fight it out with the dealer.

I hate to be controversial  ...

Spend £1,500 on a PCX with 1,000 miles from new. Don't bother servicing it regularly, just run it into the ground.

I've done 12,000 miles and spent £60 on a service at 8,000 miles. That's it, and it continues to get me around the world. A GS would have broke down by now.

There's a Swedish guy in Iran right now on a R1200GS. He's completely screwed with a knackered final drive and has been quoted four weeks to get the part sent over.

Small bikes = bigger brain. :)

Oh, Snoopy, Snoopy, Snoopy......................!:blast

Bet that scooter felt good compared to your Indian mountain bike!:D
