Don't worry about them breaking unless you do something really stupid with them
I have used a material thats well up to the Job
This is twice the diameter of your grip
    Tried and tested

Interested in one of these for the longer autobahn trips but concerned about the safety aspect. Is it fairly easy to roll off the throttle without fear of the device catching or flying off?

Don't worry it is easy to roll of and it won't fly off...What is it going to catch on ?
It is very easy to fit and use....Common Sense goes a long way

Don't panic Jon ...It's in the post
    I made a batch of 20 up

    Should fit the 800 fine
    It fits my R100GS perfectly
Also fits my 1100GS but touches the mirror shaft at full throttle
But i am working on a slightly differnt version that will be adjustable and more adaptable
