Over the winter I've acquired a Remus exhaust and Y-tube thingy and a K&N air filter.

Now that nice Mr Brown has sent me a tax rebate, I'll add a 'go faster' chip.

Which is the best one foe a R1150GS 4v?

Would it be worth waiting to see how the new Power Commander might perform?

On the subject of Remus exhausts, am I right in thinking that I need a short extension tube for the outlet and some heat reflecting pads to stop my system cases burning?

You can get the heat shield extension thingy for the Remus from Nippy Normans (latest 2005 Remus cans dont need them according to Nippy Normans website).

Stick on heat shield for the LH pannier is BMW Part No. 46 54 2 316 611.

chip

Like you I've had a Remus, Y piece and K&N fitted. Fuelling is definately lumpy at low revs and I have been thinking of getting a chip upgrade. I'd bee interested to learn what people recommend and where to go to buy it and get it fitted. The Remus is also pretty loud so I might try the y piese with the original exhaust first and see if that alters the lumpiness as well.

Makes it worse IMHO. You'll also want to get some top notch ear plugs coz although the standard can is a lot quieter, the backfires are ten times as loud. :D

AFAIK the BB chip is the one to go for.

I've found that as long as you keep the baffle in the remus, you don't need the extn....

Lumpy running - remus and Y piece ? = try this , no chip fitted, just standard motronic

Thanks Steptoe but scuse my extreme ignorance of all things electrical but what si it and where do I get it. Also a BB chip has been mentioned. Anyone know where this can be sourced/fitted?

motorworks supply them & they are relatively easy to fit at home with a few tools.

interesting to note that rhinewest advise adopting basic anti static precautions in their fitting guide, BB don't bother. i did anyway, should be standard practice.

This one is a further question for Steptoe on this subject.

Your suggestion is an alteration to the standard Motronic 2.4 is it? I am running my bike with y piece, remus revolution baffle in and K&N. I've looked through various threads and there seems to have been concern over burning the valves through running lean. What does your fix do and should I remove the Cat code plug if one isfitted? Is the yellow box in your photo the CCP?

Any viewsabout whether I am likely to ruin my valves on the settings at the moment would be appreciated.

Rhinewest Performance Software

The folks at Rhinewest know a little about performance tuning. We sent them our exhaust system (Neptune) and after 20 dyno runs we found that the full system(Y pipe, muffler, chip) we got almost 93 rear wheel horsepower from an 02 GS! That is fantastic!

The chip(software) clearly advances the bikes timing, to what degree I do not know, but also changes the fuel delivery to match the exhaust system. My GS rocks! Second and third gear wheelies are fun!!

thanks,
andrew

So is this Rhine West chip available in the UK?

Do you need to get the bike to a dyno/tuning spcialist for fitting and tweaking?

And the price looks good considering the dollar/pound exchange rate.

I've looked at the RhineWest before and after dyno curves and came to the conclusion that they must have altered the ignition timing as well as the fuelling, even BMW couldn't get the standard fuel curve out far enough to give that power and torque gain when corrected.
In my opinion, the RhineWest chip is the way to go,most other chip suppliers quote a 2-4 bhp gain, however the gain is usually over a 1K rpm range right near the red-line,how many people use these revs regularly? (Look at the BBPower curves as an example).
There are modified curves which even show a drop in the mid-range!
The RhineWest chip gives a good increase in the all-important mid-range,hence stronger drive out of corners, better acceleration when over-taking.

So who's going to be the first to test one :)

Love to hear what it's like in the real world...

what about this graph?

Cookie, should have made it clear that I was talking about chips for the 1100!

Rhinewest comments...

From a US GSer:

"Well I took the plunge…and I put A Rhine West chip in the brain matter of my 03 / 04 1150 Gs. God I think I turned into a Frankenstein…. The thing behaves like a monster now. The install instructions went easier then they looked, Andrew promised they would be easy and that they were. Cutting the silicone was a little tricky, also if you get the chip also get the Special Torque head driver, it makes using needle nose vise grips unnecessary in opening the black box.
It took about an hour even though I took my time. With a turn of the key the thing started right up. It was nighttime so no real good testing was done. But I did grasp a handful and the dam thing went vertical on me. The front tire was kissing the sky…my it never did that before. A quick scoot down the road proved to be a challenge to keep it from bouncing off the rev limiter. Seems like the torque is the same but it just pulls way hard.
I have a Sebring Y pipe and a Remus Genesis can (straight shot) the combo gets it on but is a bit loud. I have tried different combos, the Y pipe with stock still runs fairly well but sound is much better. Would like to try a baffled Remus on the bike.
All in the entire bike is a terror. I can see gas mileage may be a problem with the tach bouncing off the rev limiter like it does. But the bike in 6th gear settles nicely and runs very smooth.
Still more testing to come."

Rhinewest offers a 30 day money back guarantee. Not bad at all...

thanks,
Andrew

'Kin hell,Afekete, after reading of your reaction to the power and torque gains achieved, don't ever test ride a 1200,you'll probably explode
