The plan… is to finish restoring/building my Norton model 19S and then….

Hull – zeebrugge Thursday 17 July

Ride down to Chimay for the 21st anniversary of the International Trophy of Classic Bikes at Chimay and put a tent up.

Watch bikes, get pissed on Belgian beer

Spend a week pootling around northern Europe if the weathers good, if not come home.

Question, does anyone know of any events the following weekend in Northern France, Belgium, Holland etc then I could make a week of it.

Anyone planning on going to Chimay ?, I went to Gedinne last year and loved the event.

The wife and I ,along with a friend and his son from Cornwall will be camping in the campsite near the hospital from Thursday afternoon. It costs around 38 bucks for your wrist band, and that also includes free camping in the field parallel to the start finish straight, all in all, bloody good value for 3days road racing.

pic of bikes please:thumb2

Chimay is a cracking event,, hopefully not as hot this year.

One for next year methinks. Lovely, lovely bikes No6.

Thanks :thumb2 I built the Triumph last year starting with a frame kit from Les Whiston at http://robnorthtriples.com/ Apart from the frame and painting I've built it completely myself including the wheels. It's got the best of everything, no expense spared. I've wanted a Rob North Trident since I first saw (and heard!) them 40 odd years ago in the Transatlantic Trophy Match Race Series. It's a dream come true for me to finally own one. I built it as replica of the works 1971 bikes as ridden by Ray Pickrell and Tony Jefferies etc. Guy Martin rode one a few years ago and he's currently building one for himself, also with a frame kit from Les Whiston. (see pics below)

I bought the Manx last year, as it is, so can't take any credit for it. It's a minter, the previous owner rebuilt it, again with no expense spared, and just kept it as a toy. I've done nothing to it except check it over and fit a new high-level, silenced exhaust to comply with ACU noise regs. for short circuit meetings. Apart from Chimay I've entered the Pre-TT Classic at Billown in 3 weeks time and the Classic TT in August, where both bikes can run un-silenced :thumb

I'm testing at Aintree this Wednesday with both bikes if anyone wants to come along and see them.

1st pic Ray Pickrell.
2nd pic Paul Smart, Pickrell and Percy Tait.
3rd pic Guy Martin.

Was at Cadwell Park in 1970 or was it 71? John Cooper won the ROTY. Great bikes.

I bought Rob North fairing and Barcelona seat unit from Les last year for a 955 Daytona project I've got on the go

He can be a difficult man to get hold of :blast

That would be Mallory Park, where he beat Ago on the MV.:clap

Les is a lovely bloke but feck me, he's nearly driven me mad over the last 12 months. I'm still waiting for some bits but I just can't fall out with him, he's just such a nice, trusting person.

Do you need to book in advance or just turn up and pay? Any links to the site?

I know this post is quite old now but I'm heading over to Chimay for the first time this year and plan on camping in the field opposite the paddock (so I'm told). Any reason you use the municipal site further away? Would I be better of trying to book a pitch there instead?
