1150RT cat code plug

I have just picked up the above bike. 2002. It has the usual surging problem but has no cat code plug,I was told to fit a yellow one so I made up the piece of wire and fitted it into the terminals. Not a lot better! Looking at the American forums you have to do something to get the ECU to pick up the new map? Can anyone help please as I am of to Scotland on Saturday and would like it to run a little better.

Thanks for your reply but I do not want to use the Techlusion or Booster Plug until I have the bike running as best I can without them. All I need to know is when I plug in the yellow cat code plug do I just switch on and start the bike and it automatically picks up the new map or is there something else I have to do before I start the bike.
