Why did trip 1 and trip 2 reset themselves

I stopped during a wee run this morning and when I set off I noticed that both trip meters had reset to zero without me touching them. Anyone. Met this and know why it happens?

I'm very sure I didn't touch the button as it's such a faff to do it when you really want to use the trips.

Had you done a tenth of a mile more than 999.9 miles?

Software solution

Had this on my 2011 R. The trips reset whenever I disarmed the factory-fit alarm using the button on the key-fob. Turns out to be a software glitch. Was sorted out by North Oxford BMW.
