Tired OE ESA system on my 2010 GSA - Wilbers or Hagons?

BMW missed a trick not having rebuildable shocks as standard.
They can of course be done but it's a bit more specialist work

Can anyone tell me who I need to speak to about getting my rear OEM Shock refurbished?

Thanks,
Andy

.....and I had Puckmeisters Wilbers when he finished with them....i haven't been able to re create the ride quality they gave with my new fancy semi active WC GSA. However, if it we me I would go for the rebuild from MCT. One or two others on the forum who have had this done swear they are better that new.

Best money I spent on my F800ST was going to see Darren and getting him to work some of his magic ;)

No they anticipated it so they can sell us new ones at £ssss :blast

They could have had both. Add an extra £400 per year for two shock services to the already inflated bike service costs. What's not to like (for BMW).

Oh dear Sir's rear shock has failed. Sir did have the optional shock service of course? No? Oh that will be £1000 for a new shock please. Or we can sell you an Ohlins for £2000.

Yep, not cheap quality suspension, good job that you didn't look at Ohlins or WP that wow would have gone to a WOOOOOOW and a thud as jaw hits floor,

Thanks for the responses. Just ordered the WESA system for my bike custom fitted for my weight and riding style.

I am also disappointed to find out that the orange spring on the shock denotes a wilbers system - and I sold my 2009 a few months ago without knowing this. Live and learn I suppose :)

Remove ESA shocks ?

So do we know if any error / yellow triangle pops up if you unplug ESA shocks and replace them with normal shocks, e.g. Hagen / Wilburs non ESA shocks ?
Someone much have tried it !

It is not a problem to fit standard Wilbers shocks to an ESA kitted GSA.
You could fit the following to the rear.
Wilbers 640 - Adjustable for Preload & Rebound
Wilbers 641 - Adjustable for Preload / Rebound / High & Low Speed Compression (Remote Reservoir)
Wilbers 642 - Adjustable for Preload / Rebound / High & Low Speed Compression (Piggyback Reservoir)

Front
Wilbers 630 - Adjustable for Preload & Rebound
These shocks are 10% cheaper until Friday (October Sale) :)

Hi all, I'm in the same boat - tired ESA, bit of a budget, so was thinking of replacing the ESA with Wilbers (£710 pair) or Hagon (£600 pair) non-ESA. It's been asked a couple of times but no answer that I can see - will there be errors/fault codes if the ESA is unplugged (equiv to running non-ESA)? Thanks all!

BWM std shocks are awful, the ESA variety is just awful and expensive

I got a white power shock on the back with 3 way damping (its got high and low speed compression) and a 170 nm spring its like a different bike, plush, compliant and way better to ride fast or slow, two up of or not. For example, instead of the back jumping off cats eyes and leaping 18" sideways you can just ride the bike safely. I had it serviced by an ex WP agent who now does Ohlin's, his view was now they sold out to KTM there's no way to get spares, get rid ASAP. 4 years on its just fine and the best bit of the bike by far.

Then 2 years back I got a Wilber's second hand on the front, looks like new (but its only one away adjustable comp and rebound) it no better than stock. Took it for a rebuild and said its very harsh to the guy in Birmingham, he said as a favour he rebuilt the shim stack to make it more compliant... but I can't tell the difference. After the amazing experience with the WP on the back the Wilbers needs to be swapped for something else.

Ohlin's are the ones to buy, but you need a lottery win to make it a sensible choice. I'd be trying an Nitron one over either mentioned in the post title
