I saw this today in the Yamaha dealers in Melton Mowbray.

It looks great. If I had the money I'd have been extremely tempted.

My first 250 as a 17 year old was a brand new one of those, I had it 3 months before it was stolen :(

I've always had a soft spot for them ever since, in the great scheme of things £3.5k doesn't seem a lot of money for what's almost a new bike.

Oh if I had the spare cash.

My first bike at 17 was a DT250, passed my test on it and rode it all over the place, had it for 3 or 4 years.
Replaced it with an XT350, wish I'd kept it.

That does look good, but I guess rose tinted specs, springs to mind.

Me too! Had one many years ago and it was a lovely wee bike :agree

My mate had the previous model with twin shocks. I had the Honda XL250 Motorsport K0.
Both sold when we got sensible & bought houses. My house went to the ex Mrs. So I now don't have the sensible house either.

I bought a DT400MX about 15 years ago for £100 . It was a non runner. Despite my best efforts and the best efforts of a couple of mates we could never get it to run so I stuck it in the Free Adds and got £400 for it :thumb

I wish I still had it :blast

Seat cover is horribly wrong. If you're going to do it, do it right.....:rob

My thoughts too:blast

DT250MX's were never that good, as they were heavy and oversquare ~ whereas they probably sold 20 DT175MX's for every 250 retailed

Never sold in huge numbers, the XT500 was more popular

Makes it collectable then :rob

.............and whilst the 175 may have been popular as a 'club man's offroader' the 250 was much nicer as a road bike / occasional off roader.

The previous model (twin shocks) to the MX was a better bike.
400s make little more power because they all use the same cylinder casting so ports are not optimised for the larger bore. But loads of potential for tuning. ;)

I had a total of three DT175mx's. I still think it's the best of the bunch, even compared to more modern tackle. As regards to the 250, my mate and I used to knock about on each. The only way I can remember the 250 being better than the 175 was ever so slightly higher top speed of the 250 and being heavier, a bit better planted. All negated once we hit the trails.

Yeah, that's all I meant really; slightly heavier, bigger (the 175 was teeny), torqueier and generally a bit less frantic which all added up to a nicer road bike. Off road the 175 was much better, maily i always fet, by virtue of it's size as much as anything else.

The 250 was crap:D

Yup, I do then to waffle at times don't I! That was far more succinct and to the point :thumb

I remember learning to ride off road at the 'Dave Taylor' Trail park in Kent when I was 15/16. They had various bikes you could use, the poshest being DT175's; they seemd so big and scary back then and I never dared ride one, prefering to stick to the far safer TS100's :D

The 175's were lovely.
I flipped one on the M54, on the way back to Dublin with my Son (aged 7 :blast ) on the back, when we got a rear tyre blow out and highsided.
We were grand. :thumb Well - He was (so that's o.k.) - my nose never recovered, but it did cushion my fall and slide. :pullface
It was used for racing before i got it, so not exactly standard.
I rebuilt it mostly with cable ties - looked like Frankensteins monster when i'd finished. :eek
I miss it now. :(

My first bike was a TS100. :thumb

A neighbour has a small collection of bikes, one of which is a '74 model. He has offered it to me should I wish to don my rose tinted glasses.
