We stayed at the The Three Horse Shoes in Powerstock twenty something years ago. It is still a beautiful spot. Far enough back from the coast to be away from the tourists.

the very fast sweeping road from tollard royal to the top of zig zag hill should not be missed. like most bits of decent road in the south, it's miles too short though
There's a superb off road run from Tollard Royal towards Zig Zag too… do-able two-up on a dry day.
i never knew that. got a map?

Have a gander on Getamap, search Tollard Royal and it heads directly north, then loops west towards the top of of Zig Zag. Not difficult, lovely views and much nicer than going via the road. Also, if you fancy a proper airfield breakfast stop, Henstridge is far better (read more characterful) than Compton Abbas.
thanks - i'll look out for the track and check out henstridge
just in case anyone is thinking of going, i notice the cafe is not open during the week. at present anyway.

Tyneham Village - Stubbs mentioned this - well worth a visit. Beautiful, and somehow haunting.

Henstridge Air field had a bike night in the week. A good turn out, runs down the runway 'cept when planes were landing ,good fun night . Hope theyll continue it . They say the cafe is open at weekends Sat ans Sun for a good breakfast . Might be worth a lookie see .

Rachel's in West Bay is also a lovely lunch stop.
