Honda CT110 'Postie' Bike rebuild and restore

On the Honda C90 Trail there is a lever on the left handle bar:-

It looks like it is liked to the rear brake, seems odd to have a foot or bar operated rear brake.... is this right?

Sorry for the slight hijack here

I think they have a hand AND foot operated rear brake - thats what it looks like anyway

progress update :

it doesn't look much, but lots of rubbing down has got it to this point.
There are other bits being painted and it should all come together soon...

The (absolute shitter) 80's ct110 in my garage shows no sign of ever having a left hand lever. It's an NZ ag example with the dual range transmission. I know a lot of ag quads have hand and foot back brakes, the hand lever having a latch to make it a parking brake. I'd wonder if the ct had the same, since you can't leave it in gear to to stop it rolling off the stand on a hill, but I've never seen a postie get off one between start and end of shift...

Here's where its got to at the moment....

All nuts and bolts are being brass wire brushed and re-painted, then threads coated with silver permatex - no fastener has been unusable yet except one in the switch body.

Ebay handlebars arrived yesterday and look brand new. The footrest bar has been bent somehow and i've heated it but cannot get it straight - so maybe will keep looking till a good one turns up.

The wheels have been painted hipster satin black after i decided the rim chrome and spokes were too far corroded to be usable without doing something to them - this seems to work quite nicely.

I'm waiting for a couple of trials pattern tyres to arrive and i'll fit them at the weekend. The seat cover has a rip in it and has gone to the upholstery department indoors and is awaiting work.

One mirror is broken, the front and rear mudflap are missing and it needs a couple of footrest rubbers. Many many hours have been spent removing matt black paint priming and repainting all the parts.

I'm looking forward to getting her running

:clap:clap

Love that......great job and it will probably bring you more smiles per mile per dollar than anything you've owned before :beerjug:

Just need a vid of you running it down the road now :thumb2

Looks great. I think some of these small bike rebuilds are great fun and don't cost the earth. Better than watching tv in the evenings and a reason to go on eBay , buying up stuff to rub down and spray

That's looking lovely :)

When's the shakedown run planned for?

Andres (who really must get on with the fecking Tomos's!)

a last update for the mighty postie restoration project as its now done

if you remember the original posts the primary gear had shed some teeth - - i thought i'd got them all out and was delaying the inevitable . one of the teeth had managed to jam the cam chain tensioner mechanism, so it had to be stripped.

Took an hour to remove it from the frame and strip it - another hour to clean it all up and another hour or so to re assemble it.

piston and cam lobes were a bit scuffed but nothing too bad - it all went back with its original parts.

......nd here it is with all its new parts - seat, stickers and tyres and an old bmw topbox and some old throwovers for effect.
