Just seen an advert for cataclean one shot bike fuel system cleaner - kind of seems too good to be true, given the claims it makes (restores performance, improves throttle response). But it seems cheap so thought about trying it. Thought i'd dip into the collective knowledge of you guys first though in case there's some obvious thing which means it's a bad idea.

Any reason not to give it a try?

I have used a fuel system cleaner in my bike (1999 1100GS) once (can't remember which one - might have been Wynns) and it didn't really make any noticeable difference but the question I'd ask is why do you think you need to use it? Are there symptoms you are trying to address?

Just to pick this up - I'd like to try this or any similar fuel system cleaner because I bought a bike that had been standing idle for quite some time and I just want to make sure everything's nice inside the system. Are there any possible side effects or can I just give it a try and see if it does anything?

I can't seem to find anywhere to buy this cataclean, even on their own website

I tried some injector/fuel cleaner in a bike with a suspect spray pattern....it ran worse after use than before.

When I had a chat with a guy from the company I ended up sending my injectors to for a good ultrasonic leaning, he said that aftermarket additives often did more harm than good because they tend to break up lumps of crap in the system which then go on to block the jets in the injectors.

Then again, he would say that :)

I do remember using Redex many many moons ago, and finding my Mk1 escort Mexico smoking like a fekking chimney afterwards, and it rattled like a tin can full of bolts for a while and noticeably lost power as the nicely built up carbon deposits on the piston rings got swished away...logic says that 'cleaning' a system is only of any use if the 'cleaned' detritus can be removed....

"kind of seems too good to be true, given the claims it makes (restores performance, improves throttle response)"

Well it probably is then :(

used it a few times, not the bike stuff, I normally buy the car stuff and use it in a few vehicles, the car one is to do a t full car tank, so just put in a third, it's normally used in cars to scrape them through the emissions test, we buy it by the box though!

Forte for me :thumb

Use about a third of the bottle in a full tank GSA a couple of times a year and it keeps everything clean and ticketyboo!

New Member, Cataclean.

'Hi, just joined, I have a new GS 800, and a 1993 Honda VFR 750. Its been a
while since I was on two wheels, the Honda has been more of an ornament than
a bike! Nicely polished though.. I am enjoying riding the GS800, its just
gone in for first service. I also persuaded a fellow Director to get a
GS700, his first bike......
I hope its ok to mention that I also have an interest in Cataclean. It has
been a product for car, van and Truck use, selling on average 60,000 bottles
a month in the States, and around 11,000 bottles a month in the UK. It is a
British product. Because Cataclean is a cleaner, and will work in any
combustion engine, it was logical to progress to the bike market. Before we
did though we searched round for an independent bike enthusiast, with their
own dynamometer to do their own testing. We found Motrac racing in Ellesmere
Port, who initially sceptical, agreed to test Cataclean on various bikes
that came through their workshop. The results from Motrac were very good,
showing increases in BHP and Torque after treatment with CATACLEAN. We felt
that the average rider was looking more for decent throttle control,
smoother power delivery, more power and torque, rather than worrying about
emissions. The good thing is, the two usually go hand in hand. Reduce
emissions, increase smoothness and power. Of course, Cataclean can not fix
mechanical faults, nor can it make an engine better than it was originally.
Cataclean does not alter the fuel. I have used it for years in the Honda, (
and the Lawn Mower! ) it keeps everything clean, and aids starting up after
long periods of laying up.
One of the posts asks where to buy Cataclean, it is available at J&S
accessories, and many other smaller outlets. '

do you have any documentation to back this up,?

Hi. Yes, Motrac Racing tested 8 Bikes for power and torque. Before and after CATALCLEAN use. Bikes as below. I will post a link to the test results on Monday, when I can access them.

Suzuki GSX750L 1
Triumph Tiger 800XC
Suzuki SV650 K4
Honda CB1300
Yamaha FZ6
Ducati ST2
Yamaha YBR 125
Yamaha FZ1

Cataclean One Shot Bike

Further to recent Cataclean posts attached is the independent testing result from Motrac Racing on Cataclean. Also attached is a document explaining how each bike was tested. The only bike that showed no improvement in power and torque was the Suzuki, a full race prepared bike, so this result was expected. For more information on Cataclean One Shot Bike just give us a call on 0151 236 2324 and we'd be more than happy to help.
