I designed a rack for my WR250R and had it cut at a local metal shop using 5mm aluminium. I wanted the brushed effect a) for looks b) to prevent black marks on luggage etc.

I found a number of different techniques online and went with the 200 grit sandpaper then scotch brit method. The result was nice, but after a short while with my Wolfman Peak tail bag I noticed the brushed effect was wearing off in places and the shine was coming back (don't have a pic of that) Does anyone know the best method to achieve, and maintain, the brushed look....similar to that of my R1150GS Touratech rack? I might start to look into anodising as an alternative. Here's the rack...

ps I'll be changing the bolts to button head type soon.

pps A new, clean number plate has been fitted since this picture was taken :D

Brushed effect is as you know caused by abrasion.
Your straps are polishing them again. Unfortunately a very difficult thing to stop happening.
How about heli tape where the straps go?

Polishing from use is a sign of a good product well used. Patina if you like. :)
Satin anodise would probably hold its look for longer. But the hard oxide layer is only a few microns thick.
You could powder coat it or simply let patina develop.
