Planning a couple of weeks' holiday there for later this year, September seems a good time to go because of the temperature, but while checking the flights we found that one was spectacularly lower (at £99-ish). Upon investigation we found that they celebrate Rosh HaShanah on that day- 14th Sept- and then Rosh HaShanah 2 on the following day, then they have an 'Observance' on the following day. Then on 23rd Sept they have Yom Kippur, but that in fact is observed from sunset on the previous day.

Arranging a holiday around these holidays seems to be a bit of a minefield, sometimes the whole country (Israel) seems to shut down, so at the moment crossing to Jordan to see Petra among other things for about five days over Yom Kippur seems to be a good idea.

So can anyone tell me if it's practical to arrive there during Rosh HaShanah, the Jewish New Year?
