Arrived back into Portsmouth last Tuesday from Spain with "Missed Adventures" my first escorted motorcycle tour was not sure what to expect, was not disappointed from our initial meeting 14 days earlier at Porstmouth Ferry port meeting up with a load of strangers, it turned out to be a really cracking two weeks.

Had planned to do trip as previously travelled solo and just booked hotels for the next day, this was different although covering a lot of familar ground our tour leader Phil Hough takes you off the motorways and toll roads travelling through the most scenic towns and villages. The pace was sensible and covering on average 150 - 180 miles a day leaving the hotel around 10 after a leisurely breakfast, then a coffee, lunch stop normally arriving at Four star hotel with garage parking around 5pm.

Throuout trip Phil was always on hand to make sure everything was as it should be daily briefing at breakfast for planned route for day with waypoints put into GPS should you get lost, although saying this we managed to keep all 11 bikes together for the majority of the time.

To sum up a throughly worthwhile adventure I would not have seen half of what I saw on this tour without Phil's expert knowledge and his total care and consideration to all on our tour. a great bunch of people with a common interest in motorcycling Definitely touring next year with Phil, Ireland or Germany, probable both a link is here to their web site. www.motorcycletoursineurope.co.uk

Great comments, I was just looking at that site this morning with a view to doing the Pyrenees trip in the future, good to hear you liked it......:thumb2

Phil"s running a trip to Garmisch for the BMW Motorrad Days 2016... Knowing Phil it will be a good one ;):)

My wife and I also did the Missed Adventures guided tour to Spain and Portugal back in October. Like Jeremy it was our first group trip and we had a great time. I would echo everything Jeremy has said about our two weeks in Spain. Jane (wife and pillion) when asked if she would like to do such a trip again said "yes" without a single but or qualification! So I have just booked for the Garmish, Austrian Alps and Black Forest tour for July 2016 as referenced by Bryn above: this time we will be taking my son and daughter in law along on their bike. We are confident Phil will be putting together a package every bit as good as the Spain/ Portugal tour. www.motorcycletoursineurope.co.uk

Also booking Garmish,Austrian Alps and Black Forest tour really looking forward to it especially with some familiar faces.

Sounds pretty good all in all!!

But... 150-180 miles a day? Thats a Sunday morning ride out!

It's a holiday no stress 500 mile days you miss too much, enjoy:):)

Done 500+ miles a day to get somewhere, but 150 - 200 a day with stops, piccies, visiting places and grub stops.
Yes please
Feck racing around everyday...
Old age is a terrible thing.

I'm with you guys. When it's a holiday you want to enjoy it and not views as a chore.

Ive organised a few UK and European tours, so I know some people like others to do the research and organise itineraries, but being a tightfisted Yorkshireman means that the only place I'd pay someone to guide me around would be somewhere like South Africa, Peru or India. The money I saved on my US tour in 2012 paid for the flights for the two of us and more besides :thumb2

A bit of research on the various bike forums and websites like Best Biking Roads and accommodation/travel websites like Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia soon allows a great holiday to be planned - it keeps me occupied in the dark winter months :D

I found Spain a fantastic destination in 2013 as there's so much to see and little traffic on the roads. The Ride guide would be a good start for planning a full lap though

Each to their own as to weather to do it yourself and rely upon trip advisor etc or go with a tour company that really know the roads, the hotels and the restaurants. I've done both, I don't have the time to do all the planning I like someone else doing that for me, there is such a variety of tours with Missed Adventures I wouldn't use anyone else, Phil is a great organiser and really looking forward to the BMW Motorrad Days 2016 which scheduled in to a Missed Adventures tour. Well worth having a look at the web site www.motorcycletoursineurope.co.uk

!

2 double rooms left for the tour which 'inc' Garmish event :beerjug:

Like to keep the number of bikes at a sensible level on all the trips, for instance only booked 7 bike spaces for the Pyrenees run in June

Praise where praise is due.
Just returned from the Basques and Pyrenees tour guided by Phil.
Had a great time brilliant routes, hotels and company.
Highly recommend Missed Adventures Phil's a very capable tour operator.
Ride with the group or have a blast on your own very easy going.
Definitely be joining Phil again.
Cheers mate.:thumb

Looked at his website and together with your comments sounds pretty good . Done countless solo tours and with my wife as pillion including the big mileage long days and often considered an organised tour but have come across a few in our travels and don't fancy being in such a big group . 150/200 miles per day in a small group staying in nice hotels sounds pretty appealing to an old codger , well worth considering

I was on this tour too. My third with Phil. Great routes and scenery and well chosen hotels. The added bonus is that Phil speaks Spanish so for the likes of me that don't it made my first Spanish tour more enjoyable.

Not sure if this is the right place to put this but I noticed you went with "missed adventures" Jut got back from a week in Scotland with Phil. I’ve toured Europe and Scotland on the bike many years ago with a few friends. But having recently moved I didn’t know anyone to press into going with me, so decided to bite the bullet and book on a motorcycle tour and do Scotland again.
I must say it pays to go with someone who knows the area. Phil does indeed know his way around Scotland and we rode some fantastic roads, it’s easy to find some nice roads around Scotland as the Scottish really don’t do straight lines, but it takes local knowledge to find the fantastic roads.
I have to congratulate Phil on a great tour and he looked after everyone really well.
I'm looking at going with Phil again next year. Any tours of his you would recommend?
Mark

Having been back now for a few weeks wanted to post here about the Garmisch trip organised by Missed Adventures. Both me and my wife absolutely loved it, fantastic routes every day, accompanied by excellent accommodation. Even the long days to get down there were broken up well with some non motorway work. Two night says in Garmisch and the Black Forest allowed for solo or group exploration.

The BMW show in Garmisch is definitely worth a visit and a ride out found some amazing roads and scenery round the area.

The days in the Alps were amazing fun even on an old airhead trying to keep up with modern stuff. But the surprise of the trip for me was the Black Forest an area I hadn't been with amazing roads and amazing towns an villages.

All in all a excellent trip well organised by Phil and I will definitely be booking another one, I know some people want to book it all themselves but personally its a lot easier letting someone else have the hassle.

Look up Missed Adventures its well worth a look, next trip for me is Spain just not sure when.
