1150 GS Adventure - Using Pannier as Top Box

I've been looking to acquire a Top Box for my 1150 GS Adventure. I currently have the BMW Alu Panniers.

I was wondering if the BMW Alu Panniers and Top Box are universal.

E.g. The BMW Pannier can be used as a Top Box using the original fittings which came with the bike.

I tried securing and it appears that it seems to fit, however not sure if it planned that these are switchable and deemed safe/secure.

Does anyone know if it is safe to use the BMW Alu Pannier as a Top Box.

It may seem obvious but thought it was worth asking.

Using a right hand pannier in place of the top box is quite a common modification... :thumb2

It's quite a tall top box, and can unsettle the bike if fully loaded, as demonstrated above

well. Considering the GSA weights 600lbs with full tank, a bit of extra weight on the rear won't affect much. ;-) I sometimes use my right side panniers as top box around town.
