Looking for advice on WW1&2 battlefield tour

Don't forget Dieppe, there's a Canadian Memorial on the town promenade through which the sun strikes a maple leaf set in the ground once a year at the exact time of the beach assault. A big sacrifice and some lessons learned the hard way for later use at Normandy.

I think the lads have pretty much covered the major sites to visit. Ive been going to the Somme and Normandy each and every year for the last 20 or more, its gripping stuff and you will want to return. Im up in St Mere Eglise for a few nights in July. Have a fab trip fellas. :thumb2

If you happen to be in the Somme area during the centenary celebrations, you may be aware ticketing for the Theipval event closed sometime ago, but you may not be aware that ticketing for the Canadian events has only just begun, & I`ve just received the following email (Monday night - 11/4/16) regarding the 100th Anniversary of the Battles of the Somme and Beaumont-Hamel & Courcelette ticketing from the Canadian authorities, and thought it might be useful to anyone

BEAUMONT-HAMEL NEWFOUNDLAND MEMORIAL CEREMONY (July 1 2016 at 16:00)

MANDATORY REGISTRATION
Due to heightened security in France, Veterans Affairs Canada has been informed by French authorities that each person attending the July 1, 2016 ceremony at the Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland Memorial must register online at https://form.amb-canada.fr/inscription_1_juillet-July_1_201….
We encourage you to register as soon as possible.

All information provided will remain strictly confidential.

OFFICIAL E-TICKET
Once you have registered online, you will receive a confirmation email and closer to the ceremony an official e-ticket will be sent to the e-mail address which you have provided.

Please print the e-ticket and bring it with you on the day of the ceremony, as it will be required for entry along with your official photo ID (passport for example). Your ticket and ID must be presented at the French security check point at the “Canada” parking area in Meaulte on July 1, 2016 prior to boarding the free shuttle that will take you to the ceremony.

There will be no exceptions to this security requirement. Without a printed copy of your official e-ticket and your official photo ID (passport for example), you will not be able to attend the ceremony at the Beaumont-Hamel Memorial.

SITE ACCESS
The Beaumont-Hamel Memorial site will only be accessible via the free shuttle service outlined below.

• On July 1, 2016, French authorities will strictly enforce a limited traffic zone in the region. No private vehicles will be permitted to reach the memorial site. Walking or biking to the site will also be prohibited; again, please note that all participants must use the free shuttle service to visit the site that day (with first departure at approximately 11:00 and last return at 20:00).

• French authorities also advise that no vehicle will be allowed to drive from one ceremony to another on July 1, 2016. It is therefore not possible to attend more than one ceremony on that day.

1. ACCESS BY CAR
Those intending to use their own personal vehicle on the day of the ceremony must park at the “Canada” parking lot in Meaulte (see attached map). The parking lot will be accessible beginning at 10:30 on July 1, 2016. Personal vehicle includes bikes.

2. ACCESS BY TRAIN
Special trains “Arras-Albert” and “Amiens-Albert” will be in service on July 1, 2016. From the Albert train station, transportation will be provided to bring guests to the “Canada” parking lot in Meaulte for registration and security check.

I actually have tickets for the Theipval event & will be there & the logistics of trying to attend the event at Beaumont-Hammel make attending this difficult
