I'm new to the world of BMW twins, all my other bikes have been Japanese so please bear with me.
My bike is an 1150GS
When I start from cold, with a bit of choke the engine makes a chattering noise.
I've recorded it and it appears here .....

Once the engine has warmed up, the chattering disappears.
Is it normal?
Any thoughts appreciated.

cam chain tensioners,by now it should of had the latest ones fitted but who knows, shouldnt worry too much tbh

That sounds like the alternator belt. It's easy to get to and change/tighten, its behind the front plastic cover.

Check the left hand cam chain tensioner Nut. If it is 17mm then it's the original which causes clatter on start up. If it is 15mm then it is the modified tensioner fitted.

I agree with fatnfast - alternator belt, it makes a sort of "chirping" noise

Easy to adjust or replace. Its beneath the black plastic cover on the front of the engine - 4 screws to remove cover. Its adjusted by moving the alternator up as required.

Thats nice and quiet, apart from the loose belt.
BTW.
Never let it idle long or leave it idling whilst doing something else.:thumb2

Thanks for the advice everyone.
I'll tighten the belt and make sure I don't leave it idle for long!
