Rich. Confirmed my booking for Friday and Saturday, bike or camper depending on weather. Also booked dinner etc Friday through Sunday.
Mind we may end up down there before, early November possibly.:beerjug:

I've booked in, well, left my details with someone! Only drawback is I can only do the Saturday night as Sally has a works do on Friday and I'll be on dog duties! Gutted, but will make up for it with Saturday evening revelries :)

Not booked breakfast yet, must get onto that

For those that may be coming via car/camper/MH, either to camp or just come for dinner and a social, the linky shows you the only way to go. If you're camping, head left, up Bell Lane, by the pub and look out for the right turn into the gate for the campsite. Enter the field and keep left and, at the far end of the field, you'll see another gate and the tea shack. If you come in this way you'll have a downhill/flat start to exit the site.
If you are coming in a tin box for the meal, there's a car park approximately 50m on the left, before you get to the pub.
Depending on the weather, and if people would like to, bring your walking boots and i'll lead a walk, that may involve another pub en-route.:friday

Thought Sue and I would give this a recce.
Campsite has fantastic views, is very basic but has hot electric showers, clean toilets and is well cared for. A proper campsite with honesty box for things like local frozen bacon, sausages, etc. Firewood and kindling and braziers to boot. Really like this spot with some great walking. A very interesting area.
The Palk Arms is a proper welcoming pub. Excellent ale and cider. Food good, proper portions. The bread and butter pudding with clotted cream should not be missed. Friendly staff, friendly dog, friendly locals and open fires.... what's not to like

Hi Rich, would it be okay for me to turn up unannounced :D, would love to attend, but its our busy work period, i also have no holidays left , so would have to rely on favours if poss. IF i can't make it I will post to let you know, cheers.:beerjug:

For anyone that's contemplating a last minute attendance, that's fine. Just be aware that you may not get a meal at the pub if they end up fully booked, but there'll be plenty of beer, cider and socialising.:friday

I don't like planning up front and prefer to not let folks down should it go tit's up.
So my understanding is we pay to camp for the duration, mustn't expect meals and just join in at the pub. Shops a short ride away so I will self provision.

edit....Madman posted whilst I was composing this.

Having been in the Palk two nights running don't expect to get fed if you have not booked. Both nights, Thursday and Friday pretty well all tables reserved. They do home made scotch eggs though and crisps

Cheers for the confirmation/heads up Freddie. That's why i've posted this event with, hopefully, sufficient forward timescale to enable people to get booked in and ensure they're included in the whole event. If you want to just rock up on the night for drinks and a social, that's fine. There's already enough people going to ensure a great couple of evenings, but those of you still sitting on the fence and cogitating this, may miss out on a hearty meal, in a warm pub, with great beer, on a cold winter's night, if you leave it too long. However, like I said, you're welcome to self cater and/or pop down to Bovey. :thumb

You have been warned. This pub is very popular with the locals and a great craic can be had. The food is outstanding value and the ale is up their

Hottest Year Ever?!

So 2016 was the Hottest year ever - what's the chances of that changing before 9 December?!

If you give the organiser a contribution of around a tenner for all his efforts in getting this up and running.... he'll buy you a pint.:aidan

Devon camping

If you are planning a walk for the saturday, what time would be thinking of leaving? I am hoping to come just on the saturday, I am only 20 miles away so can get there anytime on the saturday to join any activities:beer:. I have just spoken to the pub and there are still places available for the group meal saturday evening.

Al.

If it's not pissing down and people would like a walk, then after breakfast, around 1000ish.

I'll bring my boots, and i'm not sure if i'd rather it was wet but warm(er) - I've had to revert to winter gloves this week!!!

Put some nice furry muffs on and you can ride in summer gloves all year round!:D

Rich
Other than the muffs, I'm all set for this great camping event - and it looks like the weather will be 'mild'.
Two nights booked in campsite (don't forget your log burner!!) and meals booked in the Palk Arms. The only thing i'll need is some helpful tossers to help me get my bike from the tarmac to the tent pitch without dropping it!! I'm hoping Orinoco has made other arrangements for his mutt so he can join us on Friday night.......:D
