Damaged Wheel Rim

Had a front wheel puncture, took wheel off and had a Pilot Road 4 GT fitted at my local garage who I've been going to for years, particularly for car tyres.
Got home and noticed that he'd damaged the rim.
Took it back and his reply was that accidents happen and what more could he do than use a plastic sheath on the rim.
He has suggested that I take it to BMW to see what they can do. My reply was yes but at your cost. His reply was "depending on how much they are going to charge".
I'm taking it in this afternoon and they've already estimated the cost will be around £150.
Any thoughts of wisdom out there empathising with my predicament?
I wouldn't mind so much if it was getting on a bit but it's only a year old, 4700 miles and not a mark anywhere else.

How many separate areas of damage are there? Looks like you need a new wheel. JJH

No excuse for damaging a wheel in any way when changing tyres. If they can't change tyres without damaging the wheel then they shouldn't take the work on. The deep gouge warrants a new rim at the expense of the garage that damaged it. I wouldn't want it repaired.

That rim looks slightly bent in the bottom picture. Might be an optical illusion, but on the left side of the black scuff the rim appears to move away from the tyre. Not sure if its just a line in some soap used for fitting the tyre

Question is that garage change just car tyres only and done your bike as favor or it's dose both ?

2 bikes , twice is happy 🤔

Thanks for "spotting" that but it is an optical illusion.

No he's always done bikes as well and has had a number of top of the range Harleys over the years so should know something about caring for wheels.

This is why I pay a small premium to get the main dealer to change my tyres. They damage the wheel, they replace it. Simple.:beerjug:

Well if do bikes too then he should cuff-up .

I change my own car and bike tyres and have never damaged a wheel. If the plastic protective parts on his tyre changing machine are worn or missing it could easily cause this type of damage.

Some car tyre changers dig in and skid like on yours ,
as the bike tyres are less flexible and the rim on newer bmws is shallow with no well,
It makes the tyre to jam on the big car tyre jib of the changer and stall the wheel tearing the paint off,
bike machines have a smaller jib but its still tricky on the late model alloy bmw rims,
He has clearly stalled the machine and forced the tyre ,, messy job,,
The rim should fix, and he should be coughing up doing that, i would avoid that place in future ,
It damages the tyre bead using heavy force, have the tyre checked for a kinked bead which you will easily spot with the tyre off,
I fit my own tyres ,, no brute force needed,,, worth the effort if you have the knack
Good luck with the repair,
Roamer

i my experience car tyre places don't really like doing bike tyres. my local place has "the bike tyre guy" who is the only one who knows how to do it

i'd go to a proper bike tyre place if i had wheels that i didn't want to be scratched etc

Three words . "County court claim"

You've been wronged- have it fixed!

Ok. Latest update.
Here I am trying to keep the cost down for the original fitter ( one man business) and why?. Went to wheel refurbishment specialists who would powder coat the wheel for about £60. But I would have to remove the tyre, discs, bearings etc.
Trouble was I could not get the discs off. Drove around to different pals with no joy. Even went to the maintenance dept where I work and they couldn't get them off.
In the end I thought Stuff it. I went straight to BMW and handed the wheel over to them.
Fortunately I know by refitting the wheel this morning that the tyre pressure sensor is working. They'll do all the work including replacing the ten disc bolts. Plus they'll guarantee not a mark on the rim when they refit the tyre.
At present I've been running around like a blue arsed fly and it's not even my fault.
The charge will be £150 which I shall have to pay to retrieve the wheel before presenting garage with the bill.
Any advice on the presenting of that bill will be appreciated.
I shall be without the beemer for between 10 days and a fortnight.

You have done enough on behalf of the original fitter. Just present him with the bill. JJH
