ON this years summer trip we rode from Calais down to Limoge, Biarritz, length of the Pyrenees, Perpignan, Narbonne, Milau, Gore du tarn, and back up top for home in 9 days (about 2600miles)
So thats to med coast and back basically - quite a bit of motorway lots of mountain passes and twisties and gorges. Ok so whats the point !!!?? 2 on 1200GS, Me on my Griso 1100 for a change (normally trip on my 1150gs) and 1 brave 6ft2 chap on a new (run in) CCM 450 loaded with his kit ! ! YES he struggled a little on the motorways but kept a fairly steady 75mph or so but in the twisties he seemed to ride it like he stole it ! To be fair he said he wouldn't do that again but point is it did it ! He just wanted to see if it would do it !

Well ive had a good day out today at CCM, resulting in me purchasing a 2015 450 GP with 7000 miles on the clock.

Having ridden it home, a mix of motorway an A and B roads I must say I am impressed.

cruised easily at 70mph, no more vibes than the x challenge, handles really well on country lanes etc., don't know how different it will be when knobblies are fitted.

Looking forward to a day out on the trails at the weekend: thumb

Thanks for all your info, which helped me make my decision.

Happy new bike day Ferret. Must have been a good test ride for you to buy one there and then!

If you join the owners' FB group you'll see that one guy has just ridden his to Switzerland today.

Hope you enjoy riding it both on and off road

So (aside from lowering the revs and controlling power through electronics) has anything been done to that engine to make it become a realitivly high mile muncher?

Am I right in thinking that it still only holds just over 1lt of oil - My KTM 500 now takes 1.4lt

It does make me think my 500 could do big miles as long as I don't rag it - Which I don't because I can't

It like the CCM is very happy at 70-75 mph, it all gets quite smooth at those speeds
    Sell my bike?
I would rather stick wasps up my arse !

Oil capacity is just over 1 litre but that doesn't seem to cause any problems and mine didn't need any topping up in either of the off road trips this year. Service intervals are published 5,000 miles.
Plenty of folk doing longer distances both on and off road now (including down to SA, the TAT, Lands End to John O'Groats etc.) and I've not seen any reports of engine problems, most common fault seems to be heated grips stop working due to fuse working loose.

No idea how good a mile muncher the KTM500 would be by comparison and I've seen you ride yours and "restraint" wasn't the first thing that came to mind

Full power conversion no longer invalidates the warranty

Done that Finn, bought a secondhand one, not demo from them👍 And as toddmeister says you can have full power without invalidating the warranty. I will use it for a few weeks before I decide on wether to have the full power upgrade.
