Scrapyard dog or Phoenix from the fire?

Does the Busa stem work on the BMW bearings or is there a plan afoot ? they look like like they were ment to be.

What will you be doing with the wheels guess the front spindle will need a bit of treatment if your staying BMW.

Keep the updates comming.

If you find the front forks are a little short a stepped top yoke would give you an extra 30 mm or so, I think one of the later Honda Fireblade ones fits

Everything is close but ...:augie
Lot of measuring up to do:comfort
The stem on the Suzuki yoke is @ 15mm too long I guess,
The yokes also look like the offset may be slightly less, but I havnt took a good look yet.
i think it will need a stepped top yoke to reclaim a few lost mm on the length but then run the risk of the yoke making contact with the tank,.:p:p:p
Think I'll just look at it for a while:D

You have lovely hands for a mechanic. xx

Shortening your stem is pretty easy. Just cut out the 15mm from the middle and weld it back together.

I had Jim Cray lengthen my GSXR stem on my Ducati track bike by joining two cut stems together with a weld. I bought a spare, and we cut them in the middle with 10mm difference to create the extra length.

There is not a huge amount of pressure in the middle of the stem, but i still wanted to use someone i trusted with a welder :)

Ooooh…

it's like a de-seamed mini! :D

Blasting would make it look 'factory' too. Somewhere on 'internet I saw a laser being used to 'vapour blast' an airhead engine. It looked cool!

Equally, if someone could make a user friendly blaster that a home-mechanic could use, that used an easily degradable media (Ice?), and let us blast ally casings 'in-situ' surely we'd buy it by the thousand?

I had the front hub of the G/S cleaned locally, using only extremely high pressure water blasting with no media.

Not what you would want for paint or powdercoal preparation as no metal is removed, but ideal if your idea of a perfect restoration is one that no one realizes has been done.

The hub just looks like an extremely well preserved 32 year old hub, with a patina which matches the rest of the old girl, and that was just the look I was after.

.... was just thinking, a cheeky way of getting some fork height back would be to get some lower profile stem nuts..... the two suzuki nuts waste a lot of height. but indeed, your tank might take a hit, mine certainly has :-(
