Hi Paolo, met you in Moab as part of Chris's group. Sorry to hear about the bike mate, that's a bummer. Hope you get paid out pal :comfort

Are they saying you changed its appearance without telling them therefor not paying out ?

Insurance voided my policy last week!
The reason is a genuine mistake of mine...i didnt notify them when i moved house.
The problem is that they dont cover my new postcode (1.5 miles out of where i was before)
The country where i come from goes with different cities so different prices, here they go with postcodes! I just didnt know and i forgot to tell the insurance!!

The second issue is that when i renewed my insurance in september i didnt have the bike with me cause it was being shipped back from the states so i asked the broker to postpone the start of my policy in order not to waste money. He gently agreed to start my policy the 5th of oct! But the day i paid was a month before when i didnt know i would have been moving home, and unfortunately i moved home the 1st of october
So their claiming that i applied for my policy giving misleading information about my address!

Now i started the complaint process with the insurance and already unleashed the ombudsman.

It ll be long and i dont see it bright!!
Thanks everyone for the support
I ll keep you posted!

I had to claim for a stolen car last year, it was nicked minus the keys by using the on board diagnostics socket. AGEAS made me jump thru hoops before paying out, I was interviewed at my home n filled in twenty pages of forms including validating everything in the proposal. A third party company got involved.

My car was in bits on eBay 3 days later. The police have no resources so u are on your own when this happens , 999 was being dialed by a neighbour whilst my car was being driven away.

People say I wouldn't want it back but trying to claim can be a massively stressful process, I eventually got my £16k.

I feel for you King Ari.

I know it may feel good money after bad, but getting the policy checked over by a lawyer could be worthwhile.

I hope it does all get sorted for you and that your out on the road soon.

Insurance voided my policy last week!

That is bad news...Unfortunately you are in breach of contract:blast If your bike would have been stolen from Tesco 50 miles away the outcome from the insurance would be the same.
In my policy nowhere is mentioned that my policy would be canceled if I fail to tell them about the change of address, however there is this :

" Important Notice – Information we need to know about
You must take reasonable care to provide complete and accurate answers to the questions we ask when
you take out, make changes to, and renew your policy.
If the information provided by you is not complete and accurate:
we may cancel your policy and refuse to pay any claim, or
we may not pay any claim in full, or
we may revise the premium and/or change the compulsory excess, or
the extent of the cover may be affected."

Household insurance may give you legal cover, but they will look at the case and they may decided there is no merit, which means that you will need to challenge privately, normally a barrister will give opinion if there is a chance to succeed ...It could cost you the price of a new bike...and you may lose or make legal precedent.
Somebody already said, see a specialist lawyer that deals in contracts. Remember insurance companies make money by not paying out:augie

Well guys good evening
After 4 and a half months of nightmares, countless hours on the phone with brokers, underwriters, investigators, ombudsman, engineers and so and so on, i can tell you that there is a god after all.

Today I received the settlement letter from the insurance. They ll pay a huge huge part of the market value of the bike almost everything that was owed to me from the policy.

Check is on the way but as you all can imagine i won't even see the money.
It ll go straight into the bmw motorrad bank account (passing through mine).
A new baby is on the way very very soon.

I can start being a happy chap again.

It will come with all the bits i had on the stolen one aka, gear shift assist, alarm GPS tracker and bla bla, with the addition of a shortfall insurance for the whole length of the PCP , 2 (two) abus chains, 1 abus alarmed disk lock and 2 (two) ground anchors.

I still believe it won't make it to the end of the PCP, but at least It will not be a 92 seconds job this time. The C unts will have to work much harder than that.

Now that I am in the right state of mind i promise i ll stop writing threads about problems and incidents and i ll start working on the photographic diary of my trip to the states last summer!!

Thank you for all the support. I wish you all to NEVER NEVER NEVER find yourself in the position i ve been the last 4 months and I hope to see you out there on our gorgeous incredible bikes!!!

Cheers everyone!!
Paolo

Wow, that was lucky.. what happened?

Well done

From the other side of the world, who also has had the bike stolen.I would like to say how sorry I am for how much time and hassle it has taken.Enjoy your new bike, you will soon forget the drama as soon as you ride your new toy.All the best dogma boy

, 2 (two) abus chains, 1 abus alarmed disk lock and 2 (two) ground anchors.

Great news Paolo, but ifs any help The Oxford Alarm disk lock is a pain in the arse, if there is a slight draught or its not perfectly level it goes off, dont know if the abus one is any better.
On the subject of chains, have you considered these: http://www.almax-security-chains.co.uk/Default.aspx
Do check out of the wall of shame, Abus chains are listed!

Thanks everybody!

Warlord I wish I knew the exact reason!
I believe that possibly, what made the difference was the phonecall the ombudsman made to the compliance department the day after i made my official complaint!

It must have scared them cause my policy was initially voided (with attached an accusation of giving misleading informations) and after 4 weeks the voidance has been completely cancelled with also some kind of apologies!

I was (happily) surprised of the outcome of my compliant! I was expecting and adjustment but not my policy to be totally upheld!

After that there have been many other stalling moment for some small stupid details...and everytime i was mentioning the word ombudsman..the claim was moving forward!
So if i have to say what happened my only guess is that apparently...the word ombudsman opens a lot of doors!

Long live the ombudsman!!

Good news.

It's a shame you had to go through all this hassle. Finally an insurance company doing what you pay the premiums for, when all you've done is innocently own a motorcycle.

Still all resolved, new chapter, new bike.

attempts theft Chelsea - stuffed steering lock
I parked in a bike park in Chelsea outside 2 restaurants, many shops, painters about etc and went to get a coffee 40m around the corner.

I saw 4 guys on 2 scooters head around the corner towards the bike park and in 20 seconds my alarm was sounding. I ran around the corner to see 4 thugs hooded with balaclavas and helmets around my bike, I yelled and sprinted at them, they ran to their scooters they left in the middle of the road and just took off before I could get a shot at one of them, my hamstring pulled about 3m from them (I'm 61) and I was left hobbling after them as they took off. They tried to snap the steering lock but it held and is damaged. I can still engage it but it won't undo so I found after a lot of fiddling I could pop the metal prong back into place with my finger.
Does anyone know how easy to is to find an replace the key unit??
Is there a way to replace the damaged part within the original steering lock unit?

All advice gratefully accepted

Thanks

Very sorry to hear this, glad you caught them in time. Shows they are Cowards really.

Can't help with repairs but you may want to consider better security than just the steering lock.
