A question for the collective, can the maps just be run from the sd card or does the internal memory still require them to run, i have maps on both and not sure if i can delete either one.

Thanks in advance

I know for sure that the Zumo 220 will run with maps installed solely on the SD card. On my Nav V I think the maps are split between internal and SD card memory. There's no perceptible difference in performance. If you want to manage the maps on your device a simple and safe way is to use JaVaMa GMTK or JaVaWa Garmin Device Manager programs, which are free. GMTK can be used to backup maps, transfer between devices etc. Device Manager shows the maps on your device and allows you to remove them.

if removing maps from the onboard storage do not delete your unlock files, and yes maps on sd card only will work, but you would be better off having maps on internal storage, why you may ask, because the internal storage will be slightly faster than your sd card, especially if using the card for music as well.

Thank you chaps for the above, I need to free up some storage so will cut down the size of the maps and leave on the device only, any idea as to the best size of SD card to use?

You really don't need to free up space, you just run the risk of bricking the device. Just stick a 32GB (max) card in the slot and let Garmin Express install the latest map update. It will use internal and external memory as required. I don't think there's any perceptible difference in screen update speed when navigating between maps stored on internal and external memory. Take a look at the manual - you won't find details in there of files to delete to free up space, and that's because the Nav V (and other Zumos) will use external SD card memory to overcome any lack of internal memory when maps are updated.

There is absolutely no value or advantage in not putting maps (right up to full sets) onto an SD card.

Thanks again for the advice, I've a 16 GB card in at present will upgrade to a 32GB card which should give me more storage for media etc

You'll have no trouble at all fitting a full mapset of Garmin's European map and a large volume of music onto a 32gb card, turning your GPS device into a full on infotainment system. Connect your phone and other peripherals and it'll be just like home on the move as you hoon.

It won't you know as I have not found a way of streaming Porn to the NAV 5 and despite many searches on the Garmin forums the full infotainment package evades me !

...and I thought the only place where you could find Hard Parts was the Touratech Catalogue.
