Question from valve clearance check

Yesterday i was carrying out 12K service on the R1200GS 2012 and noticed there is dicolouring on the exhaust cam lobes is this normal??



The clearances are fine and in spec at 0.35 for the exhaust, so interested to see what the thoughts are??

That link looks like the newer water cooled model TC is pretty straight forward to change shims??

They look the same as the others in real, like i say clearances are all fine which is the strange one. If they were out then would then i could understand but since they are in tolerance i am hoping its just the norm. All the searching i have done including watching Jim's DVD donsnt really show a view that i can confidently determine.

The cam lobes are indeed tapered (skew ground) on a twincam.
 
As matt w said they are machined that way,
The valves run at an angle to the cams hence the taper ,
the dark surface hardening is polished with wear, nothing wrong in your photos,
