I have the BMW charger for my 07 1200 GS it is connected via the socket under the left side of the seat,
when i switch on there is approx 5 second delay then you hear a relay click the headlights flash once if i leave the sat nav in the mount it switches on it is connected to the socket by the head stock after that the charger operates normally.
Do they all do that?

The charger has to tell the canbus to not switch off so anything connected will stay switched on. I have a digital voltmeter and fuel level gauge that stay live for at least 30 seconds after key removed. I don't have a BMW charger so it shuts off after the delay.
For battery management I prefer a plug/socket connected direct to battery. Simple - less to play up.
