I'm off to Corsica on Monday on my 90/6, I'll be camping so looking for any suggestions on roads to take, Ill be looking for campsites in the hills and one on the western side. Stunning locations are more important than facilities, but I'm unlikely to be free camping..........

I went on a Honda Blackbird, the locals didn't seem to mind.

There's a complete sticky including Corsica routes.

There are websites like RiDE and Best Biking Roads with, well, um, er.... roads to ride. You have Friday, Saturday and Sunday to look them up. You decided to go to Corsica and I guess it wasn't a choice that came into your head yesterday, so what made you decide to go there? What made you wait until three and a half days before you swan off to wonder about what roads to ride?

Have a stab at finding out something on your own. It's not very difficult for a self-reliant Adventure (with a capital A) bikermate camper like yourself.

Can't be arsed? OK, here's a start:

PS You'll need to buy a map. Get one at the ferry terminal on landing or, better still, at departure. It will give you something to look at during the crossing.

Wrapping, You really are a bit of an arrogant twat aren't you.

I hadn't seen your less than informative post, because you forgot that Corsica is in France....and that wonderful Italien website that you have linked to seems to be really helpful if I'm interested in F1 but I'm not.

Yes I do have the right map, only my usual criteria for choosing a road doesn't work in Corsica as almost all roads have a green stripe....

What would be useful would be any personal recommendations for small pretty campsites in the mountains and the west coast. (Take a look on Archies there is quite a choice).

P.s. Recommendations from other travellers are usually worth looking at, you don't have to take them up

Chas. I cannot undertand what your issue is with Wapping and his response.

It is Thursday and you set off on Monday. But your original post gives no clue to any plan or ideas that you may already have come up with

You ask for suggestions on roads to take and campsites in stunning locations. Wapping has supplied you with lots of suggestions re routes. So what have you come up with so far?

It would be great if you just used the word 'Please' somewhere in your opening post, instead of "I'll be looking for..." (Which I guess is, "I want somebody to tell me") and stunning locations to boot. Unless of course it was you just telling us how you'll spend your days, looking for campsites. If so, you'll only have yourself to blame, leaving it so late.

The thread is old. The Italians changed their website. Complain to them.

I made the joke about Corsica (as a dig at myself) at the time.

Green edged roads are scenic, not necessarily great motorcycling roads but hey, you knew that.

Pick up a copy of this in France: https://boutique.petitfute.com/corse-a-moto-2016-2017.html

It's in foreign but a map's a map and a route's a route in any language. I'd suggest ordering it via Amazon to look at before you go but that would be risky in the time available to you before departure.

Here's some more ideas, the Independent's piece is particularly inspirational.

Just putting the word 'Corsica' into the site's search facility returns 53 threads with the word in the title. They can't all be bad and for sure they are all personal. More will turn up if you don't limit the search to just the title.

Nobody else got any ideas and suggestions for killer roads and awesome Corsican campsites? This is a bod's well earned holiday we are talking about and time is ticking....

'Cos I'm a super kind Hippy I'll add my 3 1/2p's worth..............

a) IMHO the north is nicer than the south (slightly lees developed and more areas off the beaten track)
b) You'll get nowhere fast as all roads are very twisty and slow (in a good way) ~ allow plenty of time to get anywhere
c) Assuming our intrepid traveller is on an 'adventure bike' then Corsica has more tracks than you can shake a stick at and was made for such bikes. You won't need a map to find them, they are everywhere. Some are private and some are public but it matters not one jot as everybody uses them, that's how it works there. Just make sure you close gates etc and you'll have no probs.

Have a look HERE for my take on the place.

Oh and Chas, leave our Wappers alone, he's a National Treasure he is :beerjug:

There was a decent campsite on the coast, South of Calvi. Within walking distance of town (which is nice) and has rocky access to sea. Hope no "medusa's" in the sea.
Make sure you get to one of the "agriturismo" type restaurants. There is one on the D451/D151 North of Calvi. No choice of menu, but great food and atmosphere

There are 2 ways to get to Ajaccio - by the coast the views are fantastic, but the road is "interesting" if you are travelling South as the drop off concentrates the mind. If you have a pillion, they may prefer you ride inland on the D81, then back North by the coast (when you will be by the cliff side).

If there are jellyfish by the sea, try riding up the D351 (South of Calvi) - there is a river on the left hand side which has a number of warm rock pools - you will see where people are parking their cars, and just walk down towards the river.

If you are fed up with slow roads, the T30 inland to Corte is faster and wider. Corte is an interesting "capital" city with good history.

Bonifacio and Porto Vechio in the South are very different - more wealthy houses and wider beaches. some nice little cam sites in the woods there.

Watch out for forrest fires - and the very impressive way they extinguish them.

Thanks, Andres, here's a reward:

I have just looked at my free ViaMichelin app on my iPhone, standing on the street in London EC3. By zooming in I can see lots of twisty roads (Col du this, Col du that) coloured either yellow or white. If I were sitting at home, at the port, on the ferry or just chillin' on arrival, I think I'd take a plucky guess that Michelin has got the shape of the roads and their designation just about right after all their years of practice. I'd gamble that Michelin's lack of green edging might mean that they are not 'scenic' (whatever that means to each and every one of us) but that they'd still probably make some excellent (possibly even awesome) hooning / bimbling/ bumbling roads to ride. I'd then go and ride as many as I could in the time available. Some might be great, others less so and some might even be shut (or even shit) but hey, I'd not be at work!

Enjoy your holiday. Not long to go now!

PS These bumps to your original post are keeping things boiling. Cooking with gas, almost.

Thank you :) You sir have have perfect timing as I shall be visiting the V&A in your fair city tomorrow afternoon to see a certain exhibition................................

I know a mouse, and he hasn't got a house. I don't know why I call him Gerald. He's getting rather old, but he's a good mouse.

Andred... Well Jamaican, man.

An excellent museum the V&A and a great exhibition, I hear.

London is currently rammed full of tourists, taking advantage of the weaker pound, (happily) all undeterred by threats of terrorism and not dissuaded by the incorrect perception that it's all a shite hole.

Unless you want to go to Ealing Broadway (and who wouldn't) the underground is in tip-top form over the weekend:

Weather looking good, too:

In five minutes at work (multi-tasking with a sandwich) I found:

http://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/2016/june/the-great-summer-ride-guide-part-14/

http://www.ride.co.uk/routes-1/tour-2015 You'll need to exercise your finger scrolling down.

It would be an hour maximum on the computer and / or on a map to cut that lot and more into a really good holiday. Yes, it requires a bit of effort but Rome wasn't built in a day. Then find yourself campsites to suit YOU - not unknown Joe Fat Boy bikermate from Hounslow, whose idea of a great site is one with a piss stained wall, two warm bottles of Pietra and a pizza van - along the routes. It really is that easy. You could do it on Saturday morning, after watching the opening match in the Lions tour of New Zealand.

Then, when you've come back, write a nice trip report with lots of pictures. Bods like pictures, trust me.

PS I confess I had to Google up the beer in Corsica. The answer is out there, naturally.

.............

Yeeeah maaaaaan :D

I'm looking forward to it :) As an aside, I know the V&A well, it was my 'Saturday playground' as a kid. I was born and grew up in Thurloe Square (opposite the V&A across the Brompton Rd).

Right, back to the topic, as you were......................

Thanks for the info.....I liked the Independants piece

I'm arriving at bastia and leaving from Ajaccio.. Looks as i'm going to ride around the Tip on the first day, then stay a couple of days inland, either near Corse or Moltifao. Then its off to the west coast with a Campsite near Piana, on the Plage d'Arone

http://campfiremag.co.uk/corsica-campsites/

Then I'll be heading south to Bonifacio taking in some of the Prehistoric sites......so the basis of a plan, can always be changed.

if I do find any awesome campsites then I'll report back. personal recommendations are usually the best.

Andres,

Jury is out on the national treasure status, surely you want to encourage people to use the club and the forum, elseways it will end up as dead as the BMW club.:jager:jager

I'm on a R90/6 so anything over graded gravel tracks would be interesting.:rob Liked your report.

Andres,

, elseways it will end up as dead as the BMW club.:jager:jager

.

BMW club's far from dead chap, had over hundred hoteling B/B'ing and camping at Rhino Rally Beddgellert this year about the same as Micky's do in Dent, there's far more going on month by month by way of events, camping weekend's, hotel weekends and europe trips, got a huge rally comming up in August that'll attract 400 - 600 attendees :thumb2
