Yes Principal for me. CN take the piss on price then drop. First they wanted 450 then droped to 330. Because I may be required work in different locations from time to time they wanted to charge me business rates. JJH
Same with me and principle last year. Happened to a few lads I know. Once bike was over 15k didn't seem to want business. I commute to work on bike and the wanted address of workplace and where it was stored there. Ended up going with CN.Principal got back to me this morning and their price was even more expensive than my original quote from CN. The quote was also based on doubling my excess from €250 to €500!. I can only assume that it has to do with the value of the bike. Once it goes over €18k it has to be referred from the Dublin office to the underwriter, Zenith, who are based in Gibraltar as far as I know.
CN got back to me and had reduced their quote by almost €200 from their original quote and I took it.
Next year the value of the bike will have reduced so we'll see what the story is then.
Thanks again.
As a result of this thread I contacted Principle today and also as my Carole Nash policy expires on the 15th.
All went very well initially as the fella in the Irish office took all my details. My bikes are airheads and when asked about modifications I mentioned that my GSPD is twin plugged and has an electronic ignition installed. He noted that and the conversation ended with him saying that he was going to contact the UK office to get a competitive quote. He called me back an hour later and was most apologetic stating that they were refusing to quote due to the dual plug modification. He is familiar with this mod himself and was surprised at their response. Anyway, he said he couldn't do anything for me.
Thoughts anyone?
What is a modification? Fitting a screen? different tyres? or what?
