French traffic law requires the use of dipped headlights - is it acceptable to utilise the DRL as fitted to R1200GS's?

I have just ridden through northern Spain and all the way up through France on my XR, only using DRL's. There was never an issue. I'm sure the local biker Gendarmes would have stopped us if they felt it necessary, but they just waved at us instead. Happy days

Judging from the, presumably faulty, self-levelling xenon headlights which totally blind me every time I drive at night, the shape of the cutoff is pretty irrelevant.

Been through France on two trips this summer - 2016 GS & later a new RT.

No issues whatsoever.

This will make you laugh, I even seen a lad riding through Paris with a torch taped to his helmet, when he stopped at the traffic lights, I asked him what is the torch for, he said fuse had blown and no headlight, so looks like your lights will be fine.
