99.999% my fault for overtightening the bolt but the gear lever bolt sheared off today. Luckily I was close to home and in 2nd gear so could limp home.

I have an aftermarket lever fitted:

which uses a different bolt from the OE lever. Not sure if that made a difference.

anyway, local bike shop will drill out stuck bolt on Tuesday.

Two Words for you my friend:-

"Torque Wrench"

I use mine on anything that would be a real PITA if my ham fisted attempt at mechanics could cause an issue with under or over tightening, some settings always seem far too loose and others far too tight - proving I really do need to use the damn thing.

Was it a stainless bolt? Some grades are really quite weak though you can get "high tensile" stainless. Zinc plated HT carbon steel would be a better bet.
