I've written this out a few times now, and can't seem to get the words right. I decided to just put the pictures on instead.

Ready for the off.

Waiting for the tunnel.

Not everyone's favourite choice!

Stayed there with Denise a couple of years ago.

There's a Triumph just down there.

Stop to take layers off as the temperature climbs.

DSC_10186-L.jpg

Shall we stop here for tonight?

DSC_10187-L.jpg

Go on then.

DSC_10189-L.jpg

Turns out that we are staying at the place highlighted on the front page of the map!

P6260205-L.jpg

setting off next morning.

P6260209-L.jpg

Looking good.

P6260217-L.jpg

Now this is the kind of scenery we were looking for!

DSC_10198-XL.jpg

And this is what we found a little further on!

Great weather, fantastic roads, glorious scenery. This is why Andy and I wanted to head to the Dolomites.

And what a lunch it was!

Photobombed by a couple in lycra.

Andy's first car was a Cortina.

We were five days into a nine day trip. We had just had an outstanding day of riding, and stopped to discuss where to go for the night. We left Pozza di Fassa at about 4.30, and were heading towards Ora when things went pear shaped.

DSC_10208-L.jpg

See that Volkswagen? Andy didn't.

DSC_10220-L.jpg

So we spent a lot of time here.

DSC_10224-L.jpg

Not a bad view from the hospital window.

DSC_10228-L.jpg

New wheels?

DSC_10227-L.jpg

This is Andy's room.

DSC_10226-L.jpg

My room in the hotel nearest the hospital.

What to do whilst your oldest friend is stuck in an Italian hospital for a couple of days?
Why ride your bike of course!

Andy's wife and their eldest lad, Luke, managed to get to Cavalese at 10.00pm on the Wednesday evening. An emotional reunion all round.
The next morning, after an early breakfast, I left them to head home.
Fill tank, empty bladder, twist throttle, repeat.
The weather was atrocious. In a peverse sort of way I enjoyed it.
After the broom cupboard in Cavalese, I got an upgrade in Libramont- Chevigny.

Sadly, the restaurant was full, and couldn't fit me in. Bastards. And on my birthday too.
Happily, the breakfast next day made up for it.
Got home that afternoon.

Thanks Tim. I nicked it from an old joke about a vampire bat, but it works so well. One you'll probably hear plenty of variations of whenever I mess up a section.........:D

Which reminds me..... See that steep bank? Mark didn't. :D

Great RR, shame it went so tits up for Grimmy but seems like you still managed to salvage a good time from it :clap

Great report, glad it all eventually worked itself out and your mate is ok, just a bit of a heads up on the RED CIRCLE with Motorbike inside, it is just telling you no 2 wheel vehicules allowed from 10pm until 06.00am, this is common in Germany and a lot of places now to keep the noise down, thanks to the loud pipes save lives brigade, and also watch out for this new sign in the link below, it has just been voted on a popular Bayern area road, and it means no motorbikes Saturdays, Sundays, and bank holiday days, its just getting worse in Germany for riding.

We thought it meant that, but weren't sure why. Cheers.

I go skiing near Timmelsjoch and love the Dolomites - especially Cortina.

Sorry to hear about the accident. What happened and is all now sorted?

Very nice.

If you went through Cortina, you must have done Passo di Giau - one of my favourites. Hope your mate heals soon!

(Mellors ... Don't ever have a pop at my photography again .... :D )

A momentary lack of concentration? Sat nav on flat bars instead of up in front of you like mine? Andy remembers nothing, knocked himself out on the rear pillar of the car. I saw it from 100 yards back ( fecking unpleasant I can tell you) and have it on video. Nothing conclusive as to reason, but the facts are that the car had stopped to turn left, and at between 35 and 40 mph Andy's brakes only came on a fraction of a second before he hit the car. Badly broken arm, two broken bones in his hand, two dislocated toes. The arm is not healing well, and he is still off work and unable to use it properly.
