I have booked the ferries to arrive in Norway on the 7th August and plan to ride to the top of Norway by about 12th to 13th August. Do you think the weather will be icy or not. What clothes would you wear and take?

Many thanks

Derek

Have a look on Youtube for Richy Vida they toured Norway, I can't remember if it mentions the dates but it is a good series of videos and may give you some ideas of places to visit if you are still planning. Good waterproofs are essential looking at their trip.

Hi

Thanks. Video bit short and does not really help with the likely weather conditions or clothes to take/wear in August.

Bit short ? There is a series of about 20 of them each about 30 mins long.

I would just plan on having a bit of everything. It could be melting the tarmac hot one day, and wet snow the next. That way you cover it all. When we go next I will be taking a heated jacket regardless.

A bit under a year away. Few meteorologists' seaweed and fir cones are up to such long range predictions.

For some clue, go to something like weather underground (or some such data base of historic weather conditions around the globe) and then make your decision. Here's an example, found by Googling: 'Weather in Narvik in August':

https://weatherspark.com/m/82944/8/Average-Weather-in-August-in-Narvik-Norway. Note, the temperatures shown are not in centigrade.

Here's another one:

As to what to wear? I'd take my full suit of medieval mounted knight's armour and a pair of plum coloured plus fours. But that's just me.

August will be fine :thumb2
Been 3 times "to the top" it is a fantastic biking destination .
The weather is UNPREDICTABLE ,,, but Can be fantastically good ,or a bit wet n cold .
So ,, simply pack for the full spread of conditions, Me ,, I wear a Klim suit ,with ,a T shirt ,,,when it's warm ,,or my gerbing heated jacket , that combo covers the lot ,, except if it turn,s proper cold ( been twice in June ) , carry a merino under suit and a set of thermals and that's the bases covered . I camped , cabin,d if it turned cold DONT Over think it just go , they ALL speak English ,foods safe , waters clean ,, chill and enjoy

Did Nordkapp this July and it was rain and mist but not freezing cold.

Some of the locals told me that August is “officially” summer at the Kapp. Whatever that means. :D

Just go prepared and you will have a ball. :thumb2
